Just wait until CA is mostly EV. They'll raise the price even higher because now they're not getting enough taxes from the gas. On top of that you won't be able to charge it because of the rolling blackouts.
The deep blue states are already looking into recovering the "gas tax" from EV's an even hybrids by changing road tax from by the gallon to by the mile driven. Here in Ohio to make up for the loss they charge more for license plates for EV's an hybrids. My truck plate is $35 a year, a hybrid is $100 an EV's are $200. Those prices are for the state fee only, you have to add any city an county fees, my total is $55 year.

I would rather have that deep blue state scenario than what we have here in KY. We are a red state and have whats called a personal property tax. 1 1/2% of the value of your car, boat, RV etc. every year! They do depreciate the value yearly but of course that goes down very slow. So on my ranger Im paying $350 this year + $25 for the registration on top of that, and my boat is $750 annually as well. So I would be glad to take Ohios fee schedule, or the blue state plan anytime!!

You're free to move. Instead of trying to change it move to a blue state and you'll be more happy. Why stay in an area that you dislike?

I know that...my brother lives there an he has 4 cars LOL. But the cost of living is low otherwise. He has a beautiful property with a huge pole barn, fishing pond, inground pool an all brick ranch house on it an he paid about half of what it would have cost in Ohio where he's from (an we're not a high cost area).

You don't get a break on ANYTHING in California, unless you count not needing winter clothes as a money saver. I lived in San Diego for almost 2 years an while it was very nice with lots of stuff to do it wasn't worth the hassle. I always say CA is a great place to live if you're a multimillionaire an can afford the taxes, crazy property prices, a home in a gated community away from the crime an don't have to commute.

I was in the navy at the time an kept my residency as Florida while living in CA so I avoided their state tax. Kept my cars registered an insured in Fla too to save money.

You got it good then in a blue state. Come to Massachusetts if you want to cry! Let me give you a breakdown, truck purchase sales tax $2400, excise tax (yearly) $480 these deprecate though. Then tags, 80 bi-yearly, gas tax every time you fill up. Have an accident that’s 7 years of surcharge on top of your insurance rate. Yearly inspections $35.

When I retire that will all be left behind. I’ll go to a red state and gladly pay whatever they ask!
That's why I got out of there so I could semi retire at 51 and not have to be a slave there. We still have our version of excise tax here and it's the same as what you're paying, mine is $480 this year. But we don't need inspections on newer vehicles, license you only have to renew when you're 65 so from 21-65 it's only $15.00. Sales tax is high here at 8.8% and they tax you on everything.

I won't complain about the vehicle tax because our roads are like glass, not like the pothole ridden landmines back there. The biggest saving was the property tax. I'm paying $1,600/yr when back there it was $5,000/yr and that was a house 10 years older that I built in '97. I can only imagine what it is today. I know someone will say the home value was more back there but it wasn't. I sold mine in 2011 for $325,000 and my current home here is worth $350,000. This is why so many suffer through 3 months of blazing heat. It's sad that some transplants cant figure out why we have a low COL and forget the reasons they moved here in the first place.

My property taxes are insane. I’m at 9K a year now. My house is about 500K now. 30 years ago it was 200K and taxes were 4100 a year. But, no way I could make there what I do here. Believe it or not the roads here are improving, seems the cigarette tax is funding that ?

Glad to see liberals doing a good job. Keep it up!
I'll repeat myself yet again. California has the fifth largest economy in the world. We are between Germany and the UK. If making money is a badge of success, California is the alpha with Texas a distant second. We have the largest population by 10 million. Our emission standards and numbers of consumers dictated that auto manufacturers build vehicles just for us.
As per Dec 2020 we have 10,170,117 registered Democrats, 5,334,323 registered Republicans and 5,283,853 registered as other. We have more registered Republicans than 38 states have total registered voters. We have more registered Democrats than 47 states have total voters.
For all realistic metrics, we are winning this game with HOF stats. You can blame the ref or blame the game, regardless you're 50 years behind the times. Catch up or get lost in the process. This bus isn't stopping to suffer fools.

I did the same thing except NJ, also around 9k property tax. NJ is a joke worthy of it's own thread too.

My NJ house sold for the price of a bigger house + a cabin + 90 acres in rural Missouri. Property tax is $590 on everything, though I haven't got my new personal property tax since I bought the Ranger.

Gas is around $3.30 for 91 but damn if it wasn't near $2 last year. I was paying $1.70 for regular in my old truck before President Sippycup got in.

The only thing I miss about the N'east is the food, specifically Italian and seafood. We still haven't found one decent place that serves either out here. Other than that I have zero desire to ever return and still haven't gone back since moving 6 years ago. Plus I cant do super cold areas now after living out here.

I laughed when one of my customers said "you want good Italian go to Olive Garden". :puke: You're talking to someone who's grandparents are Italian and owned their own restaurant back in the day.
Ahhh. Olive Garden, the Italian McDonald's. And to think some people actually believe it's good Italian.

I don't have a problem with CA residents and what they do to themselves. What I do have a problem with is when they get tired of how much they F'd their state and government up and move to a new state and begin infecting it with their bullshit.

The definition of "insanity" comes to mind.
It has nothing to do with Californians. Californians are just as susceptible to thinking like New Yorkers. It isn’t Ca as a people. It is the sickness that is sweeping through some states. People are not fleeing Ca and going to Texas and trying to mess Texas up. They are conservatives who are fleeing liberalism and trying to be with like-minded people. Texas is just an example of a place that Ca conservatives are escaping to. When I leave Ca, I plan to assimilate to the state I am moving to. I already am a fiscal conservative, trapped in a state that I don’t like anymore. I already disagree with Ca. When I leave, I’m not taking and of these thoughts or ideas with me. I’m trying to get away from it.

How is your state?
