Seriously? Aren't you a mechanic?

Good thing you picked up a second one. That way you'll have something to drive when your next track day "grenades" your diff. ;)

Very good explanation. Italicized and edited the most important part.
Been doing it since 2019, Thats why I got the Locker,
for “Drag Racing” …

blew up / grenaded / kerploded the rear end of my 2015 e-locker tacoma twice while locked ? second time, ECGS repaired for free under their 5 year no questions warranty. sold tacoma shortly thereafter. i think she was cursed. both times was on wheeling trips far from home, got good at removing the ring so I could front wheel drive home. Choccolocco in Alabama, and Adventure Offroad Park in TN.

While I enjoy our conversations, I highly doubt we'll be having that one soon.

Pretty sure a Taco doesn't have enough power to even do a peg-legged burnout.

But for clarity, how many times did you use the locker for burnouts/launchs?

Toyota uses Eaton diffs. Right??

That could explain it.

the 4.0 is a good motor, the worst thing they did is put that minivan 3.5 motor in the turdgen, that thing is truly gutless.

I did not do burnouts / launches (on purpose)

Not sure about the Eaton diffs, maybe so. had Nitro gears installed when I regeared.

Wife comes home one day and said the tires are noisey on the Jeep. Turns out my wrangler JKU on 35” tires (100 lbs each wheel) had the rear locker activated. The noise was the tires chirping and skidding/locked up on every corner and turn as wife was driving on the city streets.

Nothing grenaded, no seal leaked, no issue in the years of ownership since driving miles and miles in one afternoon on city streets with the rear EATON LOCKER activated.

Driving in a straight line for 10’ rear locked is not gonna Grenade anything.

Why do locked rear ends not grenade at the drag strip?
They are designed to handle the hp they will see.

But make no mistake, they do grenade on occasion.

I wish you could react to a post twice. Really wanted to give you a  and a ? for that one.

Just goes to show that the tires are gonna take the majority of the abuse.

Must not of been the factory setup as I thought it disengaged at a lower speed than ours even.

I know that. I saw a 69 Camero grenade one back in the days. The slicks he had on were so big he had trouble breaking them loose in the water box.?

A lot of people around here (Trucks, that is) run Posi , Some run Spools…I wouldn’t be driving around with a welded or Spooled rear end on the street, but some do…I’m just a grudge racer..some bracket racing. graduated from a GSXR 1000 when I turned 70 …

Forgot to mention that I had a similar experience with 4lo in a Ram 1500 years ago.

Have no idea how she did it. But the wife called me about 2 minutes after she left the house with it. Somehow she managed to shift into 4lo while in neutral for some reason and drive off. She was deathly afraid she broke our new truck. Frankly I was too, as I couldn't tell what was going on from her description. Threw on some shoes and ran over to her, took me a second to see what she did but once I figured it out it was quite the relief.

Yeah, not something I'd make a habit of either.

Back when I was autocrossing we had a group of drift junkies that would come play with us just to get the seat time. Couple of them had welded diffs and would drive to local events. Any events involving highway travel they'd trailer their rigs to and from though.

This winter I parked on icy grass, just to test the 4x & locker. Well, I was
'stuck' in 2x4, so I put the locker on, hardly pressed on the pedal & it
did not even spin. I was a little depressed as I wanted some wheel spin
or even to put it in 4x4. Well, I got to the top & was turning hard left, on
dry pavement... Now I know what it feels like to have the locker on at the wrong time.

I'm new to this 4x4 stuff .

I was going to say this is probably more common with amateur drag racing. I've been watching NHRA for many years and I cant recall anyone ever having blown up a rear end from this. Not saying it never happens but in all the races I've been to and watched I don't recall ever seeing it. Now I've seen mine share of engines blown up. ?

I Agree. He blew his because the slicks he was trying to run looked like something off of a top fuel dragster. His last launch netted him about 3 ft of movement then push to the pits. When he pulled the cover off the rear end there was not one tooth left on the ring gear. Just pulled chunks of metal out of the bottom.
