SOLVED: Ranger Went Into Limp Mode, Engine is Only Running on 3 Cylinders

Leaving on a trip this morning about 2 miles from home warning lights came on. The truck started running a little bit rough and would only idle very rough. Had it towed to the dealership.

Any update on the repair? Hopefully it was an easy quick fix!

Still in the shop, I'll talk with the service manager later today.
So since it's still in the shop, we can probably assume it wasn't a coil/spark plug problem? I hope to God it's not ringlands or something "bigger"...

Dealer is waiting on a new Throttle body. No real time line on when it comes in.

Throttle body or mass air flow sensor is my GUESS.
Do I get a diag fee from the dealer? They will put in an emergency request and Ford will come up with one shortly. It's a simple repair. You'll be "On the road again shortly".........

This makes me nervous, would the throttle body malfunctioning be able to cause one cylinder not to fire? Seems like it would be intermittent, or a random cylinder right?

Once all the codes were clear the truck would run but it still had fault, my chevy did something like this once just because it had a low battery. Once charged it ran fine.

Throttle body fixed it, the mech has the throttle body off right now. He found more water in the intake track then he likes to see and is letting it dry out. They took some pictures and submitted them to ford. It's likely a combination of things like me driving it rather easy the first 1,000 miles. The fact that the highest temp we have seen was 10 degrees, with lows in the teens below zero. The service manager say i need to drive it a bit harder, maybe stop driving like the old man am. ;)

With Turbo and GDI, it's good to do an "Italian tune up" under load once or twice a fuel tank. Helps keep everything clear of PCV oil and helps clear anything from the valves that might be sticking around.

Oh the joys of the Ecoboost platform. Sounds like that issue with the F150s where they attach a black plate to the front of the intercooler to increase temps and prevent moisture buildup. Just be glad you weren't going down the highway doing 70 when it threw you in limp mode with traffic behind you.

I got the truck back this morning, just in time for the next blizzard this weekend. :)
What was the conclusion from Ford’s engineering dept? Is this a one off fluke or a warning of future things to come?
