Hi everyone,

I have a 2019 XLT that I've owned for a month. It's got a bunch of little issues that the Ford Dealer didn't want to help with so I'm hoping to get some advice from this group.

#1 - Adaptive Cruise Control randomly stops after working fine for anywhere from 20 minutes to over an hour. It says the sensor is blocked. The sensor has been relocated because I have an aftermarket winch bumper. This was not done by me, but looks like it was done like everyone else's I've seen on this forum. Why would it work fine and then all of a sudden decide it was blocked? Images attached of the sensor.

#2 -Auto start/stop has never actually stopped. The dealer said that was normal. Is it? In a month of driving to have it never start or stop? I had a friend with an F150 and it did the start/stop all the time.

#3 -The Truck smells of gasoline after it's been driven. The Ford dealer said 'they didn't smell anything' (which is very helpful, gotta love the dealer calling you a liar). What should I look for? Is this what the catch can everyone speaks of is for?

Thanks!

I have no idea how the auto start/stop is programmed. Mine does activate but not nearly as much as I would expect it to. It's my belief that depending on how you stop will dictate whether it activates or not. If I creep to a stop it seems to not activate while if I come to a complete (kind of abrupt) stop it will. Others on here have said they hate it because they are hesitant on whether it will start in time to be able to pull out in traffic but my way around this is that if it activates (shuts the vehicle off) I just feather the brake without really moving and the truck will restart instantly and not activate again until some other full stop on down the road.

ok good to know. The guy at the dealer basically said the system was kinda stupid. I'm not super worried about it but if it's in there, I'd like it to do something and save me a few pennies of gas.

Some people have it disabled in their tunes but the whole thing about whether it is good or bad is a well beaten dead horse around here. Personally I don't mind it being activated and left it alone in my tunes.

Can only assume you bought this truck used already with some mods. I know pretty obvious. :) the previous owner may have already disabled the auto stop/start using Forscan or installing a disabling module.

I can't help with the ACC as I don't have it.

Yep. Used and modified. I don't think it has a tune on it but that's no reason not to ask. I'll reach out to the previous owner and see.

It looks like your ACC radar unit behind the grill?!? I would guess that it IS BLOCKED by the grill and is moving around making it intermittent. It is super sensitive. BTW, I have never seen another ACC moved to that position. The aftermarket bumper should have taken into account that it had ACC. It’s also why the dealer won’t touch it

Hi and Welcome,

#1 As others have said looks like it's behind the grille, which I would imagine would "block it"- especially for a sensor that is designed not to have anything in front of it.

#2 You can see the status of the start stop system ( I have a lariat with the two screens and it's under fuel economy ), not sure where it's located on the XLT's. Mine as always worked as expected, requires very specific conditions, and even then I get the occasional "vehicle charging", which I don't mind because it gives the system a break.

Most people hate on the start stop system, I just let it do its thing. As someone who does a lot of city driving it helps with fuel consumption a lot. To each there own.

#3 Haven't heard anyone else mention a fuel smell, definitely not something I have dealt with but it doesn't sound pleasant. Can't really help with this one.

Check the oil level. There is a thread where numerous owners are having issues with gas in the oil i suggest you check it out, good luck.

#1: Our XL doesn't have the "Adaptive" Cruise Control.
#2: Our auto start / stop works.. but I wish it didn't.
#3: No gasoline smell in the cab. I'd suspect some sort of rubber boot / grommet in the firewall is not seated correctly.

Sorry.. wish I could help.

As a side note.. I was expecting to see this..

Verify that there is not a night-light (or any accessory) plugged into the 110 AC outlet. The Auto Stop Start will not engage if it thinks there's too great a drain on the battery. If the previous owner installed any electrical aftermarket accessories, like an outlet in the bed, that might also cause the ASS to think there is a drain on the battery (just speculating here).
