The adjuster offered to repair the car for 7k. I laughed at him. The frame was bent, the side panels were all skewed...there was visible damaged all over the car. The adjuster thought he'd cut me a check for 7k and walk away. I told him to take it to the shop and get it adjusted correctly. That's when the repair bill amounted to 14k. If the book is 17k...the insurance thought they'd save 3k because they refused to total the car when I asked them to. When the car was finally finished...parts had to come from Germany...the cost was 26k.
So, by not totaling the car...the other's guy insurance had to cough up an additional 9k (over book). Seems to me the 3k they were arguing about was a much better deal. That car should have been totaled, instead, it was sold as a wrecked car and I was reimbursed for the loss of value because of a wrecked car. That cost was not included in the 26k. I still miss that car. (sigh)
Jesus that's rough. I've seemed to be at the mercy of luck when it comes to adjusters but never had one THAT bad.

I wonder if one can request a new adjuster?

I'm not sure. This adjuster was so outrageous even I knew he was trying to get over. My son was with me - he just laughed at the guy. The repair work began, but the insurance company never relented about totaling the car. As the work began, the auto car mechanics saw more and more damage. I had a rental car for over 6 months. I believe the first adjuster lost his job. I wish I had a pic of the car. We put Stage 2 or 3 Dinan performance equipment on the car. It was tiny, but fast.

My sister and her husband just plunked down money for 3-4 hundred acres of that wild, wild Montana territory. We figure she'll last through one winter.
Oh ya? Where at??

I can imagine he probably did lose his job. I had an adjuster once where I basically had to do their job by calling other party's adjuster and the other party's boss, he was in a work vehicle. But yours sounds the worst I've ever heard of.

I'm not quite sure. I'll have to ask her again...on the western side, around Butte and Yellowstone is fairly close. It's really in the woods...no power, roads, water. They are going to spend a fortune homesteading that property. I have neighbors in NC (from Montana) who have told me it's going to be really tough. I still like cheeseburgers to much to go that far back in the mountains! I'd love to visit, but not until she's out of the tents.

I did learn from that episode that you need to really defend yourself. Still lost the car, but the insurance guy was the lesson.

Are they on the same side on Montana...the rest of the siblings teased her about Butte...she talked of Yellowstone. I'm not sure about the geography...I just teased her about finding her in the spring... she's a princess about to look for firewood. No good ending here....lol.

This won't end well. lol The first house I build back in MA I had a wood stove in the basement. I asked my gf at the time to go grab a couple logs and load it because I was outside doing something. Well miss princess broke a nail and I never heard the end of that one. Needless to say I loaded it from then on and well...she went on to torture someone else. :D

They'll probably be sticking a "For sale" sign in the front yard. From what I've heard...all it takes is 1 winter. Rumor has it all the U-Haul trucks leave Montana.
