I received a VIN from my dealer yesterday, and it's not yet showing in Vehicle Tracking. I'm mostly OK with that since I just received it. But what concerns me is that the VIN is inconsistent with what I've been able to glean from the forum. The VIN he provided is 1FTER4EH6KLA08302. The difference is the 7th digit - mine is E, all others I've seen are F. And the last 5 digits are inconsistent. If that's a sequential number, then mine is too low, as the recent VINs reported are much higher than that.

Just for the record mine is a Lariat 4x2. Is it possible that all VINs reported so far are 4x4, and the E vs F designates drive, and that the sequential number is for that drive train?

I also have an E too, mine is a XLT 4x2.

Edit: It's possible your order is not through the ROVP, but a dealer stock order?

It was supposed to be thru ROVP, but I have my doubts that it ever got processed that way. I gave the dealer way too much credit for knowing about ROVP, and by the time I realized I probably wasn't enrolled, the program had ended.

If the dealer confirms the VIN is correct and you can't see it through this website (https://shop.ford.com/vehicleordertracking#/), then it is likely a dealer stock order.

PS: Assuming it was entered thru ROVP (very doubtful), how soon would it show up in Vehicle Tracking?

The E is part of the body type code:

R1A - Ranger, Super cab, RWD, Pick-up box delete
R1E - Ranger, Super cab, RWD
R1F - Ranger, Super cab, 4WD
R4E - Ranger, SuperCrew cab, RWD
R4F - Ranger, SuperCrew cab, 4WD

You should make a post breakdown the Ranger VIN. It would solve lots of these questions.

It is in the Shop Manuals - the first book has a PDF talking about identification info - has a great section on how to decode the VIN.

https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/attachments/100-general-info-shop-manual-zip.2974/

Here is a more or less cut and paste from that PDF:

Item Description
1 WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier)
2 Restraint-type and GVWcode
3 Vehicle line, series, body-type code
4 Engine-type code
5 Computer-generated check digit
6 Model year code
7 Assembly plant code
8 Production sequence number

World Manufacturer Identifier
The first 3 VIN positions are the WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier).
1FD - Ford Motor Company, USA, Ranger - Chassis Cab
1FT - Ford Motor Company, USA, truck (completed vehicle)

Restraint Type
The fourth VIN position is the vehicle restraint and GVW code.
E - 6,001-7,000 lb GVW, active safety belts (all positions), driver and front passenger air bags and side impact
inflatable restraints (1st and 2nd row)

Vehicle Line, Series and Body Type
Positions 5 through 7 indicate vehicle line, series and body type.
R1A - Ranger, Super cab, RWD, Pick-up box delete
R1E - Ranger, Super cab, RWD
R1F - Ranger, Super cab, 4WD
R4E - Ranger, SuperCrew cab, RWD
R4F - Ranger, SuperCrew cab, 4WD

Engine Type
The eighth VIN position identifies the engine type, displacement and number of cylinders.
H - 2.3L,EcoBoost, 16-valve, Ti-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing), 4-cylinder, Gasoline-fuel

Check Digit
The ninth VIN position is a government-assigned, computer-generated check digit.
0-9

Model Year
The tenth VIN position is the model year code.
K - 2019

Assembly Plant
The eleventh VIN position is the assembly plant code.
L - Michigan Assembly plant (Michigan)

Production Sequence Number
The last 6 VIN positions are a numeric code for the vehicle build sequence. This is also the vehicle serial and warranty
number. The serial number can also be found on the engine block, transmission and frame.

Thanks for that information. Since the last digits are a build sequence, does it make any sense that mine would be 8302 when others are reporting a much higher value? Or would the build sequence be different for each body type code?
