Well it looks like im getting a ranger. My dealer said the other dealer is willing to trade and they are going to pick it up tomorrow (thursday), then ill be signing everything friday.
Will update and post up pictures if anyone is interested.

Thanks all for the insight, I agree and think the ranger is the best fit for me right now. Atleast, currently and for the foreseeable future that is.

My bottom line is: Does it fit in my garage? Is the MPG better than any of the rest of the trucks (my best half hates diesel)? Thus, Ranger got my heart. Love it! Already put in over 6K with travel trailer everywhere in the COVID era!

We've been a Ford family since before I was born. Heck before my dad was even born. And reliability has never been an issue for us. Only thing that's ever killed our vehicles has been rust after 10-20 years and 150k-250k miles. But any manufacturer would find the same result with the same conditions.

If you nitpick, you're going to find fault in any company and their products. Hyundai isn't perfect either. But in the grand scheme of things these days, pretty much everyone is on the same page in my book. YMMV

I'm sorry you have a bad truck, but that's not necessarily indicative of the Ranger as a vehicle or Ford has a company.

My truck isn’t “bad” but I’ve never had any vehicle that has been in the shop after 6k miles, then 8k. Not for major issues but nevertheless. Now I have a strange transmission noise at 9k. I kick myself when I think about when I pulled the trigger on this thing. Just look at the hundreds of posts in the section where people talk about their issues on this forum.

Issues yes, problems, some. That is what forums are for, as well as sharing information and mods you've done. There are some who have had bigger issues than others, and those will always get more play on the forum than the miner ones. The SYNC update is a recent example. I wouldn't characterize the ranger as any worse than any other vehicle, especially early in the model run.

Let's stick to answering the questions asked, and not make things look worse than they really are.

That's exactly my point, that every company has good and bad. You got a bad truck, but you could've just as easily gotten a good truck like mine or thousands of others who have never had any issues whatsoever (over 25k miles in my case). You could've also gotten a bad Tacoma too instead. I've heard plenty of horror stories regarding those (just ask previous owners on here for starters), and from every other brand as well.

This forum accounts for a very small percentage of Ranger owners, and that thread accounts for a similarly small percentage of members on this forum. And even that's skewed because forums are a good place for people to come when they have issues. But I'm sure you'd find a similar thread on any vehicle forum with about the same percentage of member interaction on it.

I'm not saying the Ranger (or Ford as a company) is perfect, it's certainly not. But no vehicle (or brand) is without issue, that's my point.

Another thing is most people do not go out of their way to post good reviews but will be the first to get online and post a bad experience. Like you I'm one of the lucky ones who have been trouble free with my Ranger but unfortunately some here have not had such luck. But anything that's mass produced is/will have issues it's just the luck of the draw.

Now don't even get me started with all the issues I had with my '16 Tacoma! Out of all my trucks, snowmobiles and motorcycles that was the worst vehicle/experience I've ever had and I'm not exaggerating one bit. I'll never buy another Toyota product ever based on their customer service.

If I had been in the market for a Tacoma just one month earlier I would've been able to find a gen 2 I liked. By the time I started looking everything I wanted in my area was gone so I ordered the first of the gen 3's. I think some of the smaller bugs have been fixed but they still have the horrendous drivetrain.

I swore I'd never ever consider another Ford product after my experience with a 1991 Taurus SHO - it had really bad build quality along with some components that were just cheap and unreliable and back then the warranty was 12/12 , IIRC on the entire vehicle.

But I'm seriously impressed with the Ranger - build quality and design both seem outstanding, plus I have a continuing 40yr, 600k + miles driven infatuation with turbo charged vehicles.

Would have liked it even better if Ford had filled those empty spots in the engine bay with the 2.7, twin T .

We all should've learned by now to follow steps 2 & 3 first. lol

I actually did and made the judgement call. Went into the dealer with a huge printed list of issues. Checked for all the classics - sealing door gaskets, left side suspension lower, presence of bed tie downs, etc. And the big one, vibration on take off. I felt a little and decided I can live with it.

Here's a good one for new shoppers: walk to the back of the truck and say "does this have a tailgate damper"? Open it and let it drop. Then say Oh my god, I'm going to need another $500 off this piece of S__t.

Well Im going to sign the papers afterwork today. Going to be the longest day ever. Will post up some pics afterwards.

I hope I like the hot pepper (never actually seen in person) but I like all shades of red and orange, except the race red, thats a boring color.
