Personally I just hate it but stick around long enough and you'll hear every excuse in the book. It's just as controversial as the tailgate damper! lol :bandit:

This is the second vehicle that I have owned with the auto stop start. I don't care for it at all. Hell it hasn't even worked right in my Jeep Cherokee for a while. I keep getting the "battery is charging" or "service stop start" messages. I'm sure that replacing the intelligent battery sensor would fix it. I wonder if Ford has done any better of a job with the auto stop start crap. I always turn it off.

It shuts off if you shift to the "S" position.

Why do you not like it

Part of it is old fashion and I feel that it just adds wear and tear on the starting/charging system and the other (and main) reason, I don't want any hesitation of waiting for the engine to restart if I have to move to get out of the way of anything. I want to be able to mash the pedal and GO without having the engine restart before I can move. I've had too many close calls with idiots.

Plus the fact that the whole system is finicky as far as the battery health/charge must be in a very specific parameter for the system to work. I don't know if Ford does anything different than Chrysler/Fiat in how their system works. It is a known issue for Chrysler vehicles to have problems with the entire electrical system if the battery is deemed weak by the intelligent battery sensor.

Why do you not like it
After driving my wife's Fusion Hybrid, I really didn't even notice the auto start stop on the Ranger much at first. It seemed to be very responsive as soon as the brake was released and I can't recall ever having to "wait" for the engine to restart to begin accelerating. The most annoying part was when parking. I pull into a parking spot or my garage and the engine stops, then I put in park and the engine starts again just so I can shut it back off. I would have probably left it on if there was like a 2 second delay to eliminate the annoyance when parking. I purchased the Livernois MyCalibrator and asked them to disable the start stop function with my tunes. They will also leave it on if you want it.

Then last weekend I went on a 500 mile trip and got caught behind a major accident for about 1.5 hours. I started thinking maybe disabling the start stop wasn't the best idea. It would have been handy for that trip. Anyway, I can always turn it back on and have Livernois send me a new tune with the feature enabled so it's not like it is irreversible. By the way, with the Livernois tune and auto start stop disabled I am getting about a 1.5 mpg increase in fuel mileage.

Or you could get a tune and have the tuner turn it off....no more start/stop and more power! It’s a win win!

Get LED version and the "bulb" won't burn out!
It was LED. My understanding is that the output from our AC outlet is not a clean sine wave and can be harmful to some devices. It lasted about 3 months. We have had the same device plugged in at home for years and still working.

You could also just unclip the plug connected to the battery for free.
I'm guessing that the folks doing this will end up with cooked batteries. Just a guess at this point, but I do understand what the BMS does.

Folks on the F-150 and other boards have been doing this for years with no negative effects that Ive been able to find.

I wonder. I've had my Ranger since May 22nd, and it has NEVER shut down at a light or otherwise! And, it will idle for hours if I allow it to, and the auto engine off is not disabled.
