Fire extinguisher: Looking at a member's set up here I decided to add a small kitchen fire-extinguisher to the side of the case; we plan to cook from a two-burner Coleman off the back and have a larger extinguisher in the cab. Install was easy and the box seems to hold a full kit of hazard gear plus the extinguisher without whimpering. To the inside and outside I added a metal plate and small piece of rubber shoe sole cut to match the plate; a Metal-Rubber-Plastic-Rubber-Metal sandwich. The shoe sole I had laying around the house. It should add dampening and weather protection (not that any is needed). The plate was a door plate from home depot. Threw in bolts and locking nuts. Seems to have worked well.

I like your extinguisher install! Does it interfere with the swing of the case? Can you still swing it all the way out as before the extinguisher? Or does the extinguisher hit the tail light / tailgate support cable? Can you post more detailed pictures of how you mounted the extinguisher? Thanks!

Thank you Kimball

I've not experienced any significant interference beyond what the case's limitations pre-installation. The case did not fully extend to parallel with the bed rail. As you hit on, the tailgate support cable stops it. Where I've located mine, the fire extinguisher stops the swing about an inch short of "stock". No risk of hitting the tail light due to the chord.

I assess the impact is negligible. With the cover down the case's top was marginally obstructed; it could not fully open without opening a bit of the cover w/ or w/o the extinguisher.

I tried a few pictures on the mount. The extinguisher came with a mount. I just had to add a couple of bolts and locking nuts (#10-32), along with two metal brackets with pre-punched holes (they are for door jams). Picked those and the plate up at home depot. I drilled holes through the case with a small cordless drill.

I purchased the First Alert Car Fire Extinguisher from Amazon. I like the size and weight (and the mounting bracket). It won't put out a barn fire, but it will keep me from torching the tailgate during an early morning egg session.

All in all it took 10 minutes.

Hope that's helpful.

New wheels and tires on for a few weeks now. Mines just an XL so I updated the instrument cluster to the XLT style with 4.2” screen. One of my favorite upgrades so far! I hated that tiny little crappy calculator looking screen.

Nice! Your license plate says California but that mod list don’t look CARB compliant to me! ?

Added the red/black ecoboost badge today
Took time out this weekend to install a Mountain Hatch tailgate board and the Undercover Swing Case. I also added a small fire extinguisher to the set up.

Mountain Hatch: About as easy as it gets. Screws out, screws in, enjoy. The only change I made was to paint the MH-provided screws and washers black. I wasn't a fan of the metal on black look. A minor item, but with the Mountain Hatch board on the tailgate I'm happy we installed a damper. The board isn't heavy, but it isn't light. Without the damper there would be many, many, inadvertent tailgate drop slams. (Admittedly, the damper is already scoring the rubber coating around the tailgate steel chords)

Swing Case: Like others on here I have a dealer-installed spray-in liner which consumed a lot of time. It required cutting away the rubber liner over and around the bolts. Scoring the material around the tie down brackets helped ensure they came off clean and did not peel away a swath of liner.

The only issue I ran into were the M6 bolts; likely user induced. I may not have cleaned out the M6 bolt holes on the vertical rear of the bed well enough. Lower Philips head bolt stripped/rounded (too easily; soft metal) and the upper cross threaded at the deepest point. I was able to replace the bolts with a slightly shorter, hardened, version without issue.

Fire extinguisher: Looking at a member's set up here I decided to add a small kitchen fire-extinguisher to the side of the case; we plan to cook from a two-burner Coleman off the back and have a larger extinguisher in the cab. Happy with the set up so far.

I'm appreciative for the sharing of ideas here. It likely saved me time and liner tear. It also provided the idea for adding a fire extinguisher to the glamping set up. Plagiarism being the highest form of flattery.

Great setup! What is the bar latched above your wheel well next to the cover well?

Thank you. That is the support bar for the trifold bed cover. One bar on each side to brace the folded cover up against the cab when open.

Something weird. Yesterday, I pulled into the driveway after work. Went around to the passenger rear to get my son out. Looked down and noticed my valve stem cap was missing on the passenger rear. Checked the rest of the tires. Passenger front was almost off. The two on the driver's side were tight. What is going on here? Is centrifugal force spinning them off on the counterclockwise (passenger) side?

You have aftermarket wheels and tires so maybe they were tired putting these last 2 on!;)

Looks like you have cheap fill thru the cap valve stem covers. Go to any Wal Mart etc and buy metal caps with a rubber seal in the cap....Much more reliable and likely will not loosen on you like the these cheapie ones...

Thanks Phil, will do. To be honest, I didn't look in them to see if they were even the seal type or not. I'll definitely get some replacements. Just thought it was real weird that only one side was loose.

Installed some paint protection film in my door sills. This was my first time installing PPF of any kind, and it was WAY easier than I expected. Results look great, too... you can't even see the film at all unless you get REALLY close and feel the edge and know where to look. Here are a few photos - the flash helps pick out the edge, but in person this stuff is completely invisible:

Hi Kimball.
Have you or do you know, has anyone tried using PPF as a kick plate on the door panels?

Great DIY btw.

Assuming the pressure was good in the tire that was missing the cap? I'd check and check the core for tightness. Similar thing happened to me and I must have walked up on someone in the act using a lookout. Only on the side away from the fast food joint I was in. Could be something totally different. Anger anyone lately?
