Hi Guys, forgive me if this has been covered I did a search and came up empty.

I am planning on doing 40% Crystalline tint on the drivers door and the passenger door.
That said I am also strongly considering putting 70% tint on the windshield to cut down glare from oncoming traffic.
South Bay Tint in Torrance CA quoted me $170 for the 2 side windows and $300 for the windshield
What do you guys think. Any of you done the windshield?

BTW this is going on a 2020 Platinum white supercab

Do the windshield!!! it cuts down a lot of the heat and all the UV. There is no real color change to the windshield. If you wear polarized sun glasses you will notice a pattern like you do with any tint.

Its easy to be aghast at the idea of tinting windshields, and I can't do it to my own cars, but I've spend a bunch of time in places where you all but drive blind from the sun so I get it.

And for comparison, a lot of sun glasses block out more than 30%

I know a few guys that do their windshields in 35%. I wouldn't do that my eyes would struggle. The guy that did my side windows says he does it but they have to sign a waver. He said be thinks if you hit someone with a tinted windshield you will get sued. 70% is pretty light though.

if you do it post a pic.

Hi Danny,

Okay...another back story. At Ford Light Truck Engineering, I chaired a forum called the Truck Technical Forum. My purpose in this Forum was to present cutting edge technology developed by Ford. For example, we developed a technique to detect the belt tension of front drive belts between components, alternator, A/C compressor etc...Amazing! Well, Scientific Research came up with a polarizing film similar to the old Polaroid sunglasses. It would be sandwiched between the dual pains of the windshields at the time. As I was involved in motorsports, I knew that this would not work because of government regulations but saw the application for NASCAR when they raced at tracks where the sun setting caused blinding on the windshields due to track debris, bugs etc. So I pitched this to our racing arm of the company, SVO (special Vehicle Operations). This film could be applied in layers that could be pealed away on a pit stop, but the benefit was the Ford drivers driving into the blinding sun would have a vision advantage... When we piloted this on a couple team cars, it worked like a champ, so Ford vehicles had a technical advantage, but as with most things racing, the competitors found out and soon it was no longer a Ford advantage. Still it was worth the while for Ford teams in quest of the Manufacturer Championship.

Maybe some day I will tell you folks about the Louvers for the radiator... Livernoise was involved in this... NASCAR shit a brick when they finally discovered this...

If an installer will install tint below the AS1 line, they would be smart to get a waiver signed.

It's illegal in my area but I have considered a clear film for UV reduction. But then this is AZ and windshields don't last long. I'd be shelling out $300 every year or more.

I live in VA and had to get the medical wavier (don't ask how ), and I have my windshield tinted at the legal wavier limit of 70% and the side windows at 35%. I love it. I got the ceramic tint and even with polarized sunglasses on there is no waviness or splotches like I see in some tint. It cost me $200 for the windshield and $150 for the windows.

#1 reason for doing this!
#2 is blinding headlights. I'm told this will help with the glare.
How old are you? You aren't getting cataracts, are you? I started noticing glare from oncoming headlights at night that I'd never seen before. Went to my eye doctor and sure enough, beginning to cataracts in my left eye.

I currently have 50% on the windshield of all my vehicles. 300 just for the windshield sounds steep. I had my whole truck done for $240 with 3M.
