So I bit and ordered one of these performance packs today. Ordered through Summit Racing. On back order till May 8th. Hopefully I'll have it in 3 weeks. Looking forward to road testing this.

Since this is a new part, I called Summit and asked if it was available through them. They said yes that the M -9603-REB was available but was expected by May 8th. The reason I chose Summit is because I have a $50 coupon from them. Also look around the web, as I found a better price on the part, and had Summit price match it.

I'm located in the Pacific Northwest and I've called a couple dealers to try to get this and the response I get every time is "We are not a ford performance dealer and we don't have this in our catalog yet".

I guess I'm a neophyte to this sort of thing by I want to purchase it and get it installed so that it still has the warranty; can I purchase the part online, have it shipped to myself, bring it to a dealer and have them install it for me? Who would be good to purchase it through?

They also mention the part might be cheaper if from a "Ford Performance Dealer" rather than the retail cost. Any advice?

Thanks.

Dear Eric: I bought mine through https://www.levittownfordparts.com/ for about $200.00 cheaper than the Ford Performance site's price. When it arrives, I plan to take it to a local dealer ("local" to me means Delaware or Pennsylvania) for installation, along with a few other odd jobs. Yes, you can certainly take it to just about any Ford Dealer for installation or any other certified shop (to protect the warranty). This tune is so new that not all dealers know about it yet, and they have problems of their own during the pandemic....

A change was made last fall on ordering Ford Performance parts. Any Ford dealer should be able to order threw there Ford authorized distributors now. I've ordered the fog lights, exhaust, and programmer threw my regular ford dealer with no problem.

The dealers purchases from the list on on Ford Performance website then mark up the price. It's much cheaper to buy through an authorized Ford Performance dealer.

Dealers do not have to purchase from a performance dealer as stated above and prices are suggested retail from Performance Dealers.

I work at a Ford dealer. We still get most Ford Performance parts from AER. Unless they changed something and never told us, I asked our parts manager about it last week.

You're right but the Ford one comes with a warrantee so for some it's worth the extra piece of mind in case it blows something up.
The Roush set up is comparable tune, comes with more of a cold air induction and also has 3 yr warranty. There is a Ford truck dealer near me that is also a Roush dealer, but I want to use my "points" towards it.

The roush setup doesn't have the same gains as the Ford setup.

Something to remember to is that this also gives you a lot of tools that the factory scan tool would have. Other tuners and most scan tools will allow you to check codes but they won't do a key on engine off test and the key on engine running test. Also you're able to clear kam also known as keep alive memory. Should I mention that you can do misfire correction after you perform a repair? With all this combined into one package you might as well go for it. Yes you're not getting as much power as other tuners but then again do you really need 8 million horsepower? Remember you're not going to the Baja 1000. Most likely you're just going to work in back and hit the occasional trailer towing a trailer here and there.
I already use Forscan on my laptop to change stuff. And I've got a ScanGauge 2 hardwired into the system. That gives me boost PSI, engine Temps, bat voltage and MPG. It too can clear codes. In my opinion the Ford solution is too costly for someone who will get a new truck in two years. IM done accessorizing. I am hoping the next Ranger will be all this one is and more. Tacoma is redesigned as well. Plus I have some interest in the Honda as well.
