I would've gone to a steakhouse at my earliest opportunity, purely for revenge.![]()
This was the spot before our camping trip took a turn last night. My son was fast asleep in his toddler bed, doing great. My wife and I were sitting by the propane fire pit, having a lovely time. Suddenly, my wife perked up and said she heard something. I stopped and started listening and I, too, could hear branches breaking. I grabbed our head lamp and pointed it into the trees. Then, 3-4 feet above the ground were glowing eyes. I yelled for my wife to get to the truck. I set off the car alarm. She ran to the tent, threw the camp cots out of the way, grabbed my son, and ran to the truck (which was now unlocked). I stood my ground, prepared to stand between her, my son, and whatever was is the woods. They got inside, then I backed up and jumped into the truck. We waited and waited. After a little bit, I turned the truck around to shine into the area the eyes were. We kept seeing those eyes. Finally, the eyes came a little farther forward and we got to see what was there. A damn cow. I almost had a heart attack because of a cow. Then, more eyes. There were four cows in total. They never made a sound, except for the sticks breaking at the beginning.
Anyway, we’d now been in the truck for 30-45 minutes. We decide that neither of us was going to be able to sleep now so, we headed home. Now that we knew what was in the woods, my wife and son stayed in the truck (on guard) while I tore down camp and loaded the truck. My son didn’t fall asleep again until about midnight and insisted on holding my wife's hand the entire 2.5 hour drive home. Now he can’t stop talking about having “seen the cows”. He had a blast, I almost had a heart attack.
