Hi, my 2021 ranger xlt, has twice now had the fwd collision system offline come on. Similar to when the sensor on windshield is covered in snow. Both times on a sunny day. This is followed by the wrench symbol for drive train fault and rough running, erratic shifting and loss of power. The second time a DTC code P061B code came up the first time nothing. Strange thing is it went away after shutting down and restarting. Replaced air filter just to rule out leak. Have seen a few similar posts, but none seem to indicate what the fix was. Oh and it’s at 50,000kms. Any ideas would be appreciated.

This is one of those codes P061B that will need to have a scanner hooked up and scan all systems for any possible failure code finds.
Then view Live Data and monitor various PIDS.

These types of codes it is best to have the code triggered and then view Live Data while the code is active to possibly identify the root cause of the code.
BEFORE A RESTART, that clears the code.

Viewing MODE 6 Data may help with Freeze Frame data snapshot at time when code triggered.

Most Likely a leak in the Air Induction tubing, but this would be more likely consistent not intermittent.
Check the WHOLE tubing assembly and related including the PVC tubing.

Tune and or Tire Size - Change can trip this code.

Intermittent loss of data from the Crank or Cam shaft sensors can trip this code.
Will most likely show up at start up before you start driving.

Intermittent loss of data from any of the Wheel Speed Sensors (ABS) can trip this code.
Will most likely show up after truck starts moving (wheel speed spin up)

Intermittent loss of Power to the PCM (Voltage and or VREF) Circuit

Intermittent loss of (Can Bus) Data - Communication

NOTE: Any intermittent loss of data / power, is most likely a dirty connector

As @airline tech says, it could be a host of things. ☹ It may even be something you won’t find in a technical service manual.

I had the Pre-Collision Assist Not Available, Service AdvanceTrac, and See Manual warnings early one morning. A rodent made a meal of a wiring harness up by the firewall, near the brake fluid reservoir.

A quick visual inspection might not hurt.

If it's the wire munching I'm thinking of, that was a wholehearted massacre with tiny chainsaws!

That pic of yours drives my obsession with anti-rodent strategies and keeps me up at night!

me and Soupie's recurring nightmare!

I’ve had rodent issue on a VW in the past, no sign of anything on the ranger yet. Will check over intake tubing. Will try and setup Forscan on the weekend to capture data while I drive. Thanks

Had this issue today. Wrench light came on and the display was no ABS no collision avoidance. So I'm thinking WTF drove it a mile to the store and when I started it up again the wrench was gone on the display. We h ad a really heavy frost this morning and the front of the truck is always in the shade so I thought the frost might be the culprit. had something similar once when the snow was blocking some of the front grill. Any ideas besides that?

Did it happen after using remote start?
There's a thread here for the same issue:

I live in central Florida and have been dealing with this intermittently for a while, but it's never been cold enough for frost nor has it been foggy when I've had this issue personally

Not to drag an old thread up…but I’m gonna. I still struggle with this issue on my truck. It’s done it occasionally over the last four years I’ve owned it. I can almost reliably reproduce it. It always occurs right after startup under light throttle. Like when I’m trying to slowly navigate a parking lot. It almost feels like the throttle response is uneven or glitchy at that very light throttle position. I’ve considered throwing a new pedal at it to see if it has an intermittent issue.

What DTCs do you get when this happens?

Same code. P061B. Truck reports powertrain malfunction and pre-collision assist disabled.
