Just installed the rare Ford Ranger engine cover hoping that it would prevent water from entering the spark plugs. But I see that the fourth spark plug is fully exposed. How would this cover even prevent water from gettin in?

Also surprised they chose to make the cover entirely out of soft foam instead of thin plastic. Any genius can see this is gonna insulate the engine making it warmer?

Your thoughts?

Not gonna do much to shield from water. Glad I got my (overpriced) jrc offroad cover which goes under the cowl ridge.

Personally I replaced that garbage foam strip they put between the cowl and plastic panels with 3m tape for extra protection.

soft foam is better for sound deadening.
the large open area below the engine is great for heat dissipation when moving forward, it just flows out when the vehicle travels.

I do agree though that this is a lame solution to water in the plug holes. They didn't find and eliminate the source, they just band aided it and raised the price of the cover to grab all the suckers born every minute.

I can confirm, the aftermarket one does prevent the water from getting on the plugs. I park mine on a slant so it goes down the side. I’ll post a pic later

I already have to engine cover, since I was doing a mice entry prevention to my air inlet door cowl, added screen, when the cowl went back together, I used some RTV and some flashing tape.
I took an extra step and pulled plugs and put a thin coat of anti-seize on the threads.
Only 8,700 miles - No water in wells and no corrosion on threads was noted.

Best to stop the water before it even gets to the cover , which merely deflects it somewhere else that may also suck over time...

I was going to suggest the pool noodle trick like in the link above. I put the cover on to help keep the noise from the high pressure fuel pump out of the cabin.

This must just happen to certain trucks? My truck sits outside and after a day and a half of continuous rain my engine bay is dry. Any thoughts?

It mostly happens if you park on a hill nose down. I'm outside all the time and my drive is level, never had the issue.

I installed the engine cover but I don't think it will do a lot for the water, it does deaden sound a little more which is a plus, you need the pool noodle, that's the best fix I have seen yet to stop the water from getting to your engine. Check this thread.

I tried the pool noodle and the fancy rubber noodle from Lowe’s with the adhesive.

Both came off and were laying on top of the engine.

You are probably right. My truck leaked from the center clip down into #4 even with going through a car wash, decent rain, etc. I fashioned an RTV dam around that center clip and now rain/carwash water is diverted away from the #4 plug.

My cover does seem to shield #1-#3 plugs.

Do you have a pic of your fix for this?

Were they at least covering the plugs after they fell off ?

2 years and no water issues here.

I did buy into the foam top at a ridiculous price for what it is.
