If we waited for Ford to provide this it would probably be on the Lariat 501a package. Best to just add one yourself. There are many locations here in the forum talking about it like this one:

As for me, I have a *very* heavy tailgate on my 1999 F150 and never felt the need to not want the truck because of a lack of assist. The Ranger I have coming is a piece of cake compared to that so I will not want one. But if someone is coming from a truck that does have one I can see why it may be missed. For me, just a lighter tailgate is exciting!
