Hi everyone, first post.

I'm building a storm intercept / volunteer EMS concept vehicle for the spring based on a 2021 Ranger Lariat.

We will need to run wiring through the firewall into the cabin from the engine compartment for various accessories and switches.

Does anyone know if there is an existing port or other access point for doing this or is it a drill project.

Thanks in advance:

Warren

There is also a unused access grommet underneath the truck right under the drivers floor board that I found much easier to run lighting wire to my switch panel then screwing around going through the firewall which can be a pain in the ass unless you have specific thread in tools

Give me a moment let me dig up the pictures I posted sometime back

The firewall grommet is a PITA, so I discovered through the power of the internet there is an unused grommet right under the driver side floor board (pointing to general area in second picture). However, take note, not only do you want a slit in the carpet padding, you want to continue one more layer through a sheet of rubber/ sound deadening material. The carpet is the top of three layers. Then its as simple pushing them through. I didn't even need a guide line, the wiring came up in the foot well on its own as long as I started it in that direction.
It’s easy to spot underneath it is a blank grommet I’m assuming it’s in the floor pan for drainage purposes if you ever had to use it for that but in my case it was a super easy way to get wiring into the cabin without scratching my hands up or trying to fit my sausage fingers near the firewall to feed wires through

Thanks. We also have to run a 12v. feed from the battery directly into the cabin for a fuse box to power a lot of the equipment beyond the existing cabin fuse box taps and USB / cigarette lighter ports.

For an ignition source, use fuse 35. It’s an ignition on and open fuse slot to use.

@OFC Ranger I lifted my floor mat and do not see a blank grommet. Is it under the floor carpet? I'd like to use this option. It looks like going through the firewall on this truck will be a monumental PITA.

Yes. Don't go from top down. Go lay down under the truck in the area I am pointing at you will find it

Yup, just did that and found it from the bottom side. Thanks mate.

Any issue reinserting this grommet after removing it and cutting the two layers under the carpet? It doesn't look like that tight of a PITA fit to me.

Don't cut the carpet (or liner). You can run the wires out to the door sill and easily run it from there.

This gets referenced a lot. I just checked it out for myself and i honestly have no clue how you’re supposed to access this grommet. It is so far back and buried behind other parts.
I tried this but I believe the hood release cable has taken up this extra port in the main firewall grommet

Ended up doing this and following the harness up the left frame rail. There is alot of stuff to avoid on the way up to the battery area, including some plastic evap lines and steering shaft.

There’s another grommet in the bottom of the bin under the right-rear seat (Super Cab) where the jack is stored. I used that to run a huge cable to the truck’s battery for an EcoFlow alternator charger.

The firewall grommet was too hard to get at due to the ABS lines.
