I've been tempted. Already had my 2023 Tremor windshield replaced once due to a road chip. AZ law: zero deductible on broken windshields. They send two guys to your home at different times. One replaces the windshield. The other realigns the camera behind the mirror.
Not a law actually. You can have just liability on your vehicle and then you get to pay out the @$$ on a new windshield depending on the vehicle. I have also learned it depends on the insurance company and state to what you get for glass coverage availability. In Colorado GEICO claims Colorado does not offer glass coverage. State farm offers 0 deductible. Progressive offers $100 deductible glass. Can't speak for other companies but it will vary state by state unfortunately.

Yeah, I use State Farm in AZ. I had Safeco, and they were also zero.

I’m unsure if this topic fits here or not. I finally going to get my side windows tinted on my ā€˜19 Ranger which I’ve had FOREEVER. Forgive me,I’m old.

Can’t decide between tint that’s 25 or 35. Suggestions?

I’m considering having my windshield tinted to reduce heat. I think it’s 80 and told it’s legal. Will this affect visibility to an old man? I live in the south and dread another hot summer.
I have had clear ceramic on the windshield of my last two cars. The one before my ranger was a black 2015 GT. The 3M film used rejects 99% of UV light as well as IR and heat rejection. There were and are times that I didn't put the sunshade in the windshield on typical Texas summer day and I can say that the steering wheel or the dash didn't heat up at all. I went with 35% on both my cars but for me, I wasn't interested in the cosmetics of a darker tint. Light passage is important to an extent but how the film is constructed is more so. I will say this.. people think they spent a lot of money on their tint until they see the price for the ceramic stuff. It ain't cheap but it does work. If you're keeping your truck, spend the money and do it right the first time. IMHO

I have 80 on my windshield and it stops a lot of heat. It’s clear and UV blocking only. It’s a game changer
This is what I did, and it truly does help with glare and heat. Only took me a day to get used to the minor difference in color from factory windshield.
I'm having my 2nd Ranger branded windshield installed by Safelite tomorrow, and will then be making an appointment to have it covered.
Highly recommend this as my eyes are getting more light sensitive as I age and it really helps me a lot with night-time glare.

Safelite has their mobile guys trained to recalibrate. One guy does it all.

Do they work with the insurance company so you pay zero?
Yep.
Every time.
But I carry glass coverage on my insurance, so no deductible or anything. And they ask if I want the Ranger branded windshield or an OEM equal one.
I always choose the Ranger one because...
Ranger ?

So your insurance company uses Safelite for installation? I never asked who my company used, but they did a great job for free.

Chris and I both have Travelers and they do recommend using Safelite but it's not mandatory. You can chose any company you like but Safelite has always been great when I've used them here and back east so I've. stuck with them

I am in TN. It is true that the font doors are only supposed to be 35%, but I had the shop I used match the rear windows, so I have 20% all around. I absolutley love it! Night vision is good, but daytime driving is so much less tiring now. I had an older Ranger a few years ago with limo 5% tint on the rears and 20% on doors. Honestly, the rear windows were too dark, but I will say with the black truck the blacked out windows looked very cool. Also, regarding the windshield, TN only allows tint down to the "A2" mark on the glass. To my knowledge, which is pretty good, TN has not addressed this UV only tinting for windshields.

don't quit yet . . . I am just starting to enjoy my margarita . . .
some states limit what you can have on your back windows based on whether or not you have side mirrors For example this is Texas tint law:

  • Windshield: 25% VLT tint is allowed above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line or top 5 inches, with less than 25% reflection.
  • Front Side windows: Must allow more than 25% of light in.
  • Back Side windows: Any darkness can be used.
  • Rear Window: Any darkness can be used with side outside mirrors, 25% VLT without.
how odd especially since all vehicles have side mirrors lol
I’m in an odd situation where I bought the truck in a state where legal limit is 35%, but I live in a state where legal limit is 25%.

I’m getting windshield done, but I Tj I know may need them to slap something on top of the 35% in the front to make it look more uniform with the back, and a better blending overall.

Your post intrigued me because it sounds like you might have done something similar, but maybe not.
tbh id go to the state you live in and have the 25% done lol

sorta i have 20% up front and 35% on top of the factory stain on the back windows and back glass

I had them match my front tint with the factory tint on the rears. No issues with night driving. Like Doug said, cops usually don’t bother with them unless you’re in a small town or county. I was only stopped one time with my last truck, and it was by small town cops in Hillsboro Beach FL, (8 cops, 4 of which are Sergeants patrolling a single 3 mile road through town), but they were just fishing. I rolled down all windows to put them at ease. No ticket or warning. They also stop people for 2 miles over the speed limit, so be aware. Cops in TX and CT have never bothered me.

This is the way. Never liked the "stepped" look of lighter to darker and looks cleaner. Also had my windshield tinted with 70% (ceramic), a must in my opinion and in no way impedes visibility. Dig the side graphic btw.
