Really sorry to hear of this outcome for you Cory. Something don't sound right in the length of time considering the first reply came back so soon. But you never know these days.
Is it possible the insurance will also cover the re calibration of the lane assist. Wont hurt to find out.
Or perhaps the dealer steps up and covers this.
Any way best to you Sir.
Thanks. Safelite will cover the calibration. It is part of the replacement and figured into the insurance cost. Hopefully it doesn't take a month to get the glass replaced. Seems everything is on backorder.

They ordered mine on Wednesday and arrived at dealer on Friday could be different by region.
Take note on rain sensor has to be new part since it can not be reused. Delayed total completion by only 1 day. No biggie haha

Just got off the phone with the service manager at my dealer, Ford denied it. He said it went through 3 levels of escalation and appeals and they are saying its not a defect... I still call bullshit but whatever. Ask him if there is anything at the dealer level they could do since I bought my truck from them and he said no, that they have strict guidelines they have to follow with that and it doesn't meet those.

He did say since it took so long he was surprised they denied it and thought it would be approved. I don't know if he is just telling me what I want to hear but he did seem sincere. He suspected that they knew Florida is a free glass state so they just flat out deny it, which is most likely why he wont back me up at the dealer level as well. It is what it is.

So I will have my insurance take care of it and be done with it.

So now onto getting my paint issue resolved and a new rear axle which is something that popped up last week.

Whether anyone thinks this is bogus or not, if this happens to anyone and you have just a small doubt that this should not have happened, bring it it and get it on record. The only way this gets looked at is if people bitch about it. If one just assumes it must have been a rock or some outside force and dismisses it, it doesn't help anyone else down the line.

@Greg - Consider yourself lucky to have it replaced. Glad that worked out for you.
Wait, so you live in a state that replaces glass for free? Why not just have it replaced to begin with? If it wasn't going to cost you anything out of pocket, I wouldn't have taken it to ford. You could have had it replaced by now.

If you read back in the thread I believe it to be a Ford defect. Why should I use my insurance at my expense to fix something I believe is a defect. Insurance isnt there to fix defects. My dealer thought it was a defect as well which is why they pursued it. I wanted to see how far I could take it.

In Florida, it is a state requirement that insurance replaces glass for free. However, it still counts as a claim on your insurance and COULD affect future rates or future insurability when changing carriers. It could possibly place you in a higher risk category for rates. Plus if this is truly a Ford quality issue, why should Ford be able to dismiss it and not correct the issue? Why should they be able to pawn it off to customers insurance companies?

Your response and reaction doesn't help the issue. If there are no complaints, then there must not be a problem... that is how Ford looks at it. If there are many complaints, then Ford is obligated to at least look into it and if something is found, act on it.

I dont believe mine has a rain sensor. If it does, it never works...lol XLT 302A package. I think that comes only with the Lariat?

Fair enough. Didn't mean to come off confrontational. I did read the whole thread, and I figured from the start that Ford wouldn't cover it. In fact, I'm shocked that the other gentleman on this thread got his covered. Never would have guessed it. Sometimes, the juice just isn't worth the squeeze, especially with big corporations. I just would have gone the insurance route if it were me, being that it was free. That's all.

nothing is "free". all those in states where the insurance is required to replace items, pay more for their insurance. not free at all

I didnt take it as confrontation, apologize if my response came across that way. It may appear to be free, but it really isnt. Insurance is paying for it but that trickles down to premiums, so in reality, the customer pays for it. But I would disagree that it isn't worth it with big corporations. That is how recalls are issued. No data = no problem to solve.

I guess I must have cracked about 3 windshields when I lived in Colorado before I learned not to blast the windshield with heat before clearing the snow. Glass often just can't take the stress of cold on one side and hot on the other. Happened to GM as well as Ford trucks.
Well said. kinda common sense really

I've had my XLT for 10 days and about 200 miles. I just noticed a crack in my windshield around the mirror. I can't even feel the crack with my fingernail, and there's no evidence of a chip. I've never used the defroster.

I'm taking it into the dealer tomorrow to have the tow package bumper installed, and I'll show it to them then.

That should fall under their 12k/1 year warranty. Be prepared to fight for it though.

Dealer just called and said they found an impact point so it's not a warranty claim. I didn't see it, so I'm going in to have them show me.

They said on the phone that a new OEM windshield will be $600, or I could get an aftermarket windshield for $200. The only difference is the OEM shield has the Ford logo. Is that right? Should I go for aftermarket? The OEM shield seems pretty flimsy if it cracks so easily.

I was under that same impression when mine cracked on my f150 (couple vehicles ago). I went with aftermarket and nobody said anything when I turned the lease in. ?‍♂
