What dash camera are you all using?

Mine: TOGUARDVIDEO Dual Dash Cam 1080P Front and Cabin Car Dashboard Camera with IR Night Vision, 2 Channel Driving Recorder Motion Detection, Parking Monitoring, Accident Locked, Loop Recording, 1.5in LCD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BQMTY49/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_SC04PQHR3Z7191HFQG61

Second vehicle it has been in, works great, love having a recording of my driving adventures. Nice that it stays on for a while in the ranger.

I have the Vantrue N4.
https://www.vantrue.net/Goods/detail/gid/73.html

Lots of features. Front, inside and rear facing cameras. Inside and rear can be turned off independently. Inside is wide-angle and can capture driver and passenger window images and conversations for those encounters with Johnny Law and antifa roadblocks. Most important: 1) It has a voltage sensor so if you leave it on for an extended period it will shut off the camera before draining your battery, and 2) it claims to be built for high-temp environments... which is a requirement in Arizona.

I'm using the Vantrue N4. It's front (1440), cabin (1080), and rear (1080), with a GPS mount to record location and speed. It does a good enough job. The only thing I don't like is that it won't upload videos to web or phone, it's strictly local SD storage.

It's gotten me out of a few jams with accidents, though.

Picked up a Thinkware F200 Pro 2-channel kit on sale to replace my dying Uniden POS.
Now if the temperature would cooperate I could get it installed….

Rove R2-4K wifi & GPS dashcam. Used a quick-tap to the mirror power so I didn't need to run wires from the fuse box, on/off with ignition.
I'm real interested in that mirror power tap. How does that work? I'd especially like to find a way to do it on my wife's Subaru, as she has a pathological aversion to any visible wire.

I used a tiny 12>5vdc ( very small) buck converter like this one (light soldering needed) and the mirror tap that inserts into the power plug behind the mirror cover. I did both my Ranger and my wife's Prius. You would have to check the mirror power plug on your application to select the +12v and ground wires. The instructions on the converter are fairly clear, I did cut the connector off of the tap and soldered the power plug for my dashcam to it, both the tap wires and cam plug only have the red/black power & Gnd wires so easy. Because the converter is not cased I used heatshrink once the wires were tested.

If you can pop off the rear view mirror housing on the Subie like you can on the Ranger, you can splice into the mirror + and - wires to power your dashcam, and then replace the housing to cover your work. These tap splices work well: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-...R3dfAxbvmLPMEwi2FZBoCShQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I had 2 of the Garmin Mini Dash Cams in the front and rear. They were impressive until the rear camera lens crapped out. I was going to get another Garmin Mini until I viewed the Thinkware F200 front and rear camera setup that had everything bundled in the box. I hardwired it this morning and will update on its performance. So far it is a nice look in my Ranger.

I installed a Thinkware U1000 last year. It's a dual camera 4K unit with great picture quality. Now a days you really need one the way people drive and are so distracted.

I have the same setup, plus a battery backup hardwired in. Was in my Frontier. Pulled it before training in, just need to install in the Tanger now.

Paid for itself when I got sideswiped and they tried to contest. I would not hesitate to recommend, or buy again. If I could storm proof it, I'd put them on my motos.

Hi Mark,

There's no screen on the dash cam itself to view live. You can connect it to wifi or a hot spot but I'm not sure if you can view it live through that.
You can, when connected via wifi or hotspot. However, it will not record while in live view. And it would be a major PITA just to use if as an occasional backup cam.

Just picked up a thinkware u1000 4k front and 2K rear camera setup. Now I’m deciding whether to use their backup battery for extended use or do my own and double the reserve power

It puts it into sleep mode so you're barely drawing any power while parked. Once it detects something like a hit or a person walking/driving by it'll wake up and record. It also records 10 seconds prior to waking back up. Yes it works on both the front and rear cameras.

It only detects what's in the field of view of the front and rear cameras, so more like 140 - 180 degrees. If you look back at my pictures (post #3) it covers a pretty wide area just not the sides for obvious reasons.
I use the backup battery. I leave my cam on 24/7 , and have never had an issue with battery. It only takes about 40 minutes of driving to fully rechatgre the backup battery. I connected my battery to the fusebox, and cams to the battery. I have it set to not use my truck's battery.

I believe the camera will do everything the radar does. The primary reason for getting the radar is power consumption I think. No backup battery, better to go with radar. Battery backup...no need radar. I'd have to double check on all that to be sure, though. The cameras have motion and impact sensing, as well as time lapse recording, which can be fun in a heavily trafficed area.

The thinkware also has a manual record button, which will capture one minute of video when pressed. Thinkwate store the videos in separate files...Motion Recording, Manual recording, Impact and regular driving, which makes it real easy to find specific recordings.

Just be sure to turn the mic off, so when it's time to "Hey man, check out this cool vid my cam captured!" it doesn't turn into an episode of superbad karaoke!
