Been a while since an update as we’ve been roughing in a new workshop for Mrs. Geezer:

However, finally got the basic face frame together today. Two wide drawers on top, two stacks of 3 drawers left and right, and a pull out tray with cabinet doors in the middle….

Got a few minutes to start resawing the poplar boards that will comprise the counter top.

My latest word working...

This one is a bit older, but built a Sonosub out of a Klipsch driver I had. This thing was actually amazing, especially for it's weight. It was able to run with the SVS cylinder subs I had and when I ran tests, the graphs were nearly the same.

More recent, I wanted a center channel in my last house (I just moved), but did not want another speaker sitting out as my main speakers (and sub) are already large. I also hated the very high, useless mantle, so I pulled everything down, built a new mantle and made it the speaker, and then tiled up fireplace.

Size reference compared to my fairly large speakers, which those will be refinished soon.

I had help in the steep crossover design, but I this was one heavy crossover once I put it all together.

The best finished picture I have, which was from our house sale. But it all turned out great and sounded great.

At the same time I did the mantle, I refinished a set of 1982 Klipsch Heresy's.

Had a set of those for my rear surround and Fortes for the fronts. I have scaled down now to Klipsch RP400M's just 2.

I wish I didn't love the sound of the La Scala so much, because I hate their size and the fact that I can't move them without help. I sold the Heresy's and my sub (replaced the sub with an SVS PC-4000) to a buddy awhile back and I contemplated keeping those and selling the La Scalas, but they sound big at any volume.

Eventually, I'll downsize. I hope it won't be for awhile. My dad bought a new set in 1982 and still has them.

I would love a pair of LaScalas with a nice high end tube Amp and a great DAC just for stereo music. I would be in heaven.

Made this abstract art wall hanging for my step son for Christmas, I recycled cabinet shop samples, plus made a few squares and painted them, used the Lichtenberg machine for extra design and put in led backlighting on a dimmer. Made a maple cutting board also but haven't snapped a picture of it yet.

Here's the hard maple cutting board, soaked it for 18 hours in mineral oil and then let it air dry 2 days before I wrapped. Step son was snooping packages trying find out what I made so I wrapped another box with a big brick inside it lol.

So I want to give a go at building my own "decked" truck bed storage.

The first question I have is I see some people make a tray system out of a simple set of multiple "wheels" on the inside walls and just lay the tray on that.

109703322_medium_1494360365.jpg

Others of course just buy heavy duty drawer slides and call it a day. Of course the third option is just using unistrut and trolley wheels. What would your recommendation be?

Second question, what exactly should I use for the outside finish since it would not be under a topper? I am not talking about sealing it, which will be done anyhow, I mean something like bed coating? Outdoor carpet? Marine grade vinyl upholstery?

What do people normally do when they don't want it to look like wood, but its made of wood.

Would it be a permanent fixture in the bed? I made a knock down one for my Ranger, I cut to fit the bed width in front of and behind the wheel wells and then the top braces I labeled matching parts and dropped bolts in and it locked it from shifting. You might be able to find pics on here or I won need to look on my external drive here at home. I didn't make it for looks, just strength and functional. I can put 8-10 foot 2x4s on the bed floor and lay full 4x8 sheets of plywood or whatever on top.it worked out well. I pulled the pins out and tapped the bolts out and it's in the minibarn for next time. If I was going to use my truck for construction work or any other work I would use full length slides. Our beds are too small to waste space.

You read my mind on T nuts those things are great!

If it's exposed I would definitely treat it somehow, even a clear sealer like thompsons is better than nothing, but if I could I would buy a gallon of bed liner and roll it. I made a full width under seat storage box for my F150, had a sub box on one end and compartments on the rest, I bartered with a local shop who sprayed my bed, he sprayed the entire inside of that box for no cost and I in turn made a custom sub box for his Sporttrac. I already had the box from my prior Sporttrac so it was an easy swap. I put matching carpet on the outside. Wanted it sealed in case a liquid spilled.
