So here is how it went. I took it to Greenway ford in orlando. I made an appointment. I planned to wait. Price on the phone was $420. Price in the driveway was $450. Price out the door $485. When I got there at 8am I was told it was an all day job. (I had a job 30 years ago doing this. I know how long it takes). They sent me home in an Lyft. At noon he calls and says since it is such a big job they gotta keep it overnight. I took a Lyft back to get it on day 2. The inside of the truck had oil spots on the arm rest and steering wheel. The underside of the truck was wet with transmission fluid. Probably just from the spills taking the pan down, but the drips were not even wiped off. But it is done.

wow this is what it cost me
pan gasket 41.00
tran filter gasket 3.21
filter 54.00
ulv fluid motorcraft 6.18 x8 49.44

total of 147.65
and i used a new pan gasket because i did the deep pan and installed the fitz stick

I did mine in my garage , on my back in less than 2 hours and took my time doing it. Somebody messed up taking that long ?
I wanted my dealer to do it so it’s on record in case of a trans problem down the road/warranty claim.

And mine is leaking..... Back to the dealer it goes....
I don't think I'd be going back to that dealer. Seems like they are a bunch of ham fisted dipshits.

To derail the thread a little more.

For anyone who questions why you should keep the fluid as clean as possible. Here is a picture of one of the solenoids from our transmission from an article in Gears Magazine.

The area circled in blue is an extremely fine screen, meaning two things.

#1 Ford doesn't want crud to get in there.
#2 If the screen collects enough crud then it is going to restrict flow.

These things aren't like the old school TH400/4L60 solenoids that can just eat a rock and keep going. They are very precise and apparently don't take much to knock them into not working properly..

Ohh

#3 Fresh fluid will keep the additive package in the fluid from breaking down and leaving deposits inside the solenoid.

Ford/GM tried to do their best by putting a really nice filter on the units and using a well designed fluid, I just don't think it is enough.

Of course, this is just all my opinion and won't do anything to fix the drum problem.

Wow..... I really thought that my question was clear. How much does it cost, not should I! ;)

I still don't know why they charged me for a pan gasket. I was told this didn't require dropping the pan before I took the truck in.

The article you linked is a really good read. Anyone obsessing over the 10R80 and contemplating what to do as far as maintenance or mods should check it out/bookmark it.
