I probably should have posted this in the Darwin Awards thread...
It is a good reminder (especially when it's a safety recall) to not avoid them. Yes he was dumb for not getting it fixed but he paid the price for it. Hopefully someone else reads this that's been procrastinating and it will save another life down the road.

I continuously get recall notices about the connector for my taillights.

When a dealer looks in the system it shows that the recall has been fixed.

But I currently have the same recall notice in the app.

I continuously get recall notices about the connector for my taillights.

When a dealer looks in the system it shows that the recall has been fixed.

But I currently have the same recall notice in the app.
1] I received the same recall.
I even saw the tech perform the recall and confirmed it OK.
I did not want my wiring harness opened up in the first place.
The work was done close to closing time and the service manager left early.
He refused to document the work and I refuse to have my harness disassembled again.
It looks like I will be getting notices for the rest of my life!

2] Recently I got a recall for the windshield on my TC. They claimed that there may be an insufficient amount of adhesive to secure the windshield and that it may pop out and cause a wreck.
I explained that the windshield caught a rock in its first year and that the windshield was properly replaced with an OEM windshield, installed by Safelite in my driveway and that I had witnessed the installation.
They still insist on removing it to inspect and perform their own install.
The kicker is that my dealer uses Safelite to do the work.
Go figger
...Ain't hapnin'!

3] My 2001 Ranger went 18 years before it saw the inside of a Ford Dealer, they installed that famous cruise control power supply fix. (desperately needed of course). So much so that many owners waited more than 5 years for the dealer to get the $5 part required.

4) My 1995 Mustang still has an outstanding recall notice for a possible hood delamination.
This Mustang has had the hood upgraded to a Cobra hood,(not included in the recall) yet they still send recall notices on this 27 YO car , after being informed of the change.

These are just a few anecdotal personal experiences but the point is that Darwin has nothing to do with it.
For Ford It is often just CYA from the legal department, and for the owners it is often just a matter of good judgement.

I say "get a recall done" promptly if it makes sense.... but remember the cover on

Why are you looking at me.

I just have to survive my subi airbag recall another month....

I've not done the Airbag recall on my 1998 or 2000 Civics yet. But, I don't drive them and need to get the 1998 running again to sell.

It should also be noted that many times when you take a vehicle like my subi that is 10 years old to a dealer you have to sign a waiver that if they break anything performing the repair, you are responsible to pay for it... I signed that once, after that I did all my own maintenance. If they'd have handed me the airbag, I would do the recall myself.
