As our cooler weather is here and using heat in my Ranger, and been impressed with it it for the most part such as quick warm up from a cold start.

What I am questioning on is when you stop at the light, the truck stops when the Auto Start/Stop is used, I noticed the heated air is cooled off very quickly, and then the truck starts up again, the heat comes back on right away.

I thought the truck had a pump that will pump the coolent though the coil to keep the heat going?

If I lived up in your neck of the woods, I wouldn't hesitate for one split second to put an auto start/stop eliminator on it.

probably depends on how cold it is and how warmed up the truck is. mine won't autostop until it reaches a certain temp, then if it's not real warmed up it won't stay off for long. once the coolant temp is all the way up it will stay off longer, but it hasn't gotten real cold outside here yet.

It has gotten into the teen's here and the engine has been up to temp. I am going to wait till it get really cold out, and see what it does.

otherwise, yeah it will say low temp as the truck is warming up when I first leave the house, but after the drive and temp gauge is up to temp this is when I noticed the air is cooled down when it auto stops.

Nah, not gonna happen.. I'm guessing if the temps are 0˚ and colder it may keep the engine running.

Would it help to turn up your climate control temperature to a higher setting?

It's about the same. Really not a big deal, just figured it would be just as warm when the truck is running,

I would guess that the fan or the air doors change when the eng stops.

Yup.
The S/S system has a laundry list of conditions which must be met in order for it to stop and then restart while remaining stopped. My Escape will restart if sitting for ~90 seconds (long light, RR Xing, etc) if it is fairly cold or warm outside. Once the cabin temp sensor reaches a threshold higher or lower than the temp setting, the car will restart to warm or cool the car, or if the battery reaches a low voltage threshold; stopped with headlights, rear defrost, both seat heaters on, etc.
In the Escape owner's manual, there is a section that describes all the parameters for the S/S system to turn on or off, I would guess the Ranger manual would have the same info. if not, you can go on Ford"s website and download one in .pdf format.

Personally, S/S can get to be annoying. I understand making an effort to increase fuel milage and put less carbon compounds in the atmosphere, but I can't imagine that the energy and pollutants created in making bigger batteries and heavier-duty starters than otherwise would be necessary is offset by saving a gram or two (.04-.08 oz) of fuel at each stop over the life of those components. :computerrage:

Pretty sure the Auto Stop / Start is sponsored by the Battery & Starter Manufacturers Association of America.

My start/stop won't engage much anymore. Certainly not on my relatively short work commute. On longer bouts the engine is plenty warm enough so it does end up turning off at stops. Ends up being fine since the cabin is usually plenty warm by then so I can handle a couple minutes of either no heat or lower temp heat. And you're right, if it does end up getting too cold, the engine just turns right back on.

In the end, I haven't seen any real problems leaving the button un-pressed through the winter.

Agreed! All you anti start/stop guys are really trying hard to convert those (apparent) few of us who still use it. But some of us like it and aren't pulling our hair out every time the engine turns off at a light.

Some people are triggered more easily than others, just let them be. :p
