Vinegar Smell from AC

Started smelling a vinegar scent coming from the AC. Goes away after it runs for a while. I replaced the cabin air filter and that seemed to help for a bit, but sure enough it came back.

Any ideas? Would rather not have to pay someone to fix this.

It’s not isolated. Seems to dissipate after many miles, and may be most noticeable when the vehicle is attempting to auto cool to 70/72 F degrees (which occasionally causes the system to warm up before cooling down; like a pool regulating heat). Ours is most noticeable with first start/remote start. Goes away with max cool air.

Hi Nax,

Vinegar smell is symptomatic of RTV...Room Temperature Vulcanizing sealant. I would suspect this might be your concern....The good news is that is RTV set...this smell dissipates and will not bother you in the future. If this is not a good assessment...take it back to the dealer and show them the other thread referenced in this thread.

I've got the same issue. 20k miles later it has not gone away. Will get it to the dealer eventually...
