Nah man, I'll take my two pound, comfortable, external frame pack any day over Alice. I love my Seek Outside Unaweep. I hike in running shoes, sleep under a quilt, on an air mattress, under a two pound tarp with inner net tent. That's how you walk in the woods.

That same gear list in an ALICE pack would be light also. Just have to find what works for you and seems like you did.

During an exercise, someone sent a new troop for chemlight batteries. A female captain heard he was looking for them. She started yelling why didn't anyone bring the chemlight batteries? She was serious, clueless.

I was with a USMC artillery unit. Gunnery sergeant yelled at this Lcpl to go find him a freakin' idiot for a job. He took off and about 5 minutes that young Marine came back with a Private. Gunny asked him if he was a freakin' idiot! The young Private had this dumbfounded look on his face. He answered NO Gunny!! That Gunny went all ape-chit on that Lcpl because he was s'pose to find him a freakin' idiot! That Lcpl took off again and the Gunny turned to me and gave a big smile and started laughing!
