Why not just use a good quality bolt and a lock washer? That would also eliminate dragging your nuts in the dirt... so to say.
The Ranger's bumper cannot support 7500 lbs. That is with the factory receiver hitch or an aftermarket receiver rated for 7500 or more.
You are absolutely right and I missed it in the owners manual. It is ambiguous and states the truck can tow 7500 pounds and then lower down the page breaks down tongue weight with a percentage. 350 lbs tongue/3500 lbs total is the limit for bumper pull.
