Finally got to drive the truck around today. Happy to report none of the weird adaptive shifting behaviors yet that I encountered after past resets. I have a long commute tomorrow and that will be a better test if adaptation behaviors are truly deactivated. More to come…

If I understand correctly, one reason for the adaptive learning is to prolong tranny life. Is disabling it a good idea?
Also, for those of us with a performance tune, is the adaptive learning operating like stock? I think my tranny is still shifting much better with the tune.

This is just my perspective, but even with the FP improving the shifting, 3-4 shift still had some significant flare at times. Annoys me to no end. The flare is part of the adaptive behavior as when I reset the adaptations there is no flare for the first day of driving. After that it returns. So this theoretically should solve my particular issue.

In regards to transmission life, I have zero concerns there because this transmission is extremely beefy for the Ranger application. Given all the high torque thrashing modified Mustang and F-150 racers put it through and it taking it, the small amount of stress the 2.3 EB puts on the 10R80 is nothing by comparison.

My plan is to reset to base, then lock it. Drive it a bit to see how it performs. If I encounter / notice slight hiccups, I'll activate learning until it clears up, then lock it again. Then keep it locked until the next hiccup. Rinse and repeat as required.

Have any of the f150/Mustang folk tried these mods you guys are talking about? Seems this transmission has been out awhile and I would think someone would have tried something at some point..??

I am not clear as what you refer to as 'flare'. Could you elaborate?
Also, is there any difference in Ford Performance tune and say, Livernois in the adaptive learning?

How do you 'lock it' at a certain point in it's adaptive learning?

It’s a momentary delay in shift with a slight blip in rpm simultaneously between gears.

When do we call this experiment a win or loss?

When someone who has done this takes the truck it for trans failure, and Ford denies the warranty because someone messed with the programming.

Turn off ( Halt 3rd option in red box) adaptive learning at that point using Forscan.

After spending the last couple thousand miles in Sport mode, i have learned that mine IS capable of shifting without all the clunks , just not in Drive or Tow... Park and Neutral have worked flawlessly ... so far...

Alternatively, When one drives their truck for 12,000 miles without a rough shift, slipping shift, and all the other crazy anomalies that my currently working as designed truck exhibits on an all too often basis.

I'm a big boy, and I take responsibility for my decisions. If my transmission fails, I will go to a bonafide repair expert and have the work done right.

I'd rather pay real $$ than have Ford install another "working as designed" transmission in my truck under warranty... just to have it begin failing. I only have to go once around the block to figure things out.

I don't tolerate vehicles that leave me stranded.

Addendum:
Based upon what I have learned from this forum, and from Ford experts who repair these transmissions, I already have a very good understanding of what parts need to be replaced, improved, or modified to insure the repair or replacement is reliable long term.

As Santa famously famously said in a Christmas song, "I'm making a list, and checking it twice. I know what part has been naughty or nice!" :)
