So there is a sensor on the fan clutch that runs between the pulleys and the radiator fan. It is attached to a roughly 3/4 inch wide radiator hose going from the fan assembly to what looks like a steel nub going nowhere on the accessory cover.

It LOOKS LIKE the tube is nothing but a way to suspend the sensor wire away from the pulleys and the fan. A few months back, the motor side tore. I put it back together with zip ties, and all seemed well.

I was filling my wiper fluid when I noticed the tube was complete disconnected from both ends. I temporarily zip tied it off to a PCV line to keep it away from the pulleys and fan. I’m going to get a length of hose to replace it this week.
Does this tube serve anything more than being a way to secure the wire?

The inside of the sensor spins with the fan and a bearing lets the outside keep stationary. But there's always a little bit of friction trying to turn it. The hose just keeps it from putting tension on the electrical connector. Right now if you were to unplug it the sensor would spin with the fan.

That makes sense. Thanks! I’ll replace it today if there is an open auto parts store.

How awesome to find this post. This is how i just experienced this.

I turned on my truck this morning and let it warm up for the usual 10 minutes and started driving off to work. 20 minutes into my drive I noticed that my fans were so damn loud. Almost like as if I had just turned on my truck from a cold start, except it was like this for the whole hour drive to work. Then I started idling funny, followed by low oil pressure light, followed by the CEL. And finally "See manual".

I go about my work day as I can't just "hey sorry my truck isn't running well im not making it in". Im finally about to leave home from work I hear this rattling going on under my hood.

So this just happened to me last week. Brought it into the dealership and they're replacing the entire fan clutch for me, under warranty.

I'm dealing with this right now and they just got the new assembly installed, but it seems to have led to a host of electrical problems. Since they reinstalled the part, the pass app blows up my phone with up to 17 engine faults every time they start the truck.

Was it this crazy for you?

You might have a blown fuse F12 in the Battery Junction Box (BJB) under the hood. It feeds the fan solenoid. Also, try clearing the fault DTCs and see if they return.

Is this just happening on '19's and '20's?

DTCs cleared and reappeared a few times over now, truck is at the dealer still so not able to check the fuses right now. I'm pretty comfortable with this technician, so I have faith he'll think to check fuses.

I have had no issues, sorry to hear that!

Have no info on the exact causes here so I won't try to speak to the frequency of failure. Seems like a weird design choice, but again I don't have nearly enough info to judge.

In my case the service manager says the fan assembly actually came loose and contacted the electrical control/sensor. I still don't have the truck so I can't check to see if that makes any sense in the assembly.

This fan clutch failure issue just happened to me also - had a Low Oil Pressure light come on last Sunday morning when I was out running errands, and the AC stopped blowing cold; so when I was able to pull in and park, I ran my OBDII monitor app and got like 5 trouble codes. P0034 (Turbocharger/Supercharger Bypass Valve Control Circuit Low), P06A0-00 (Variable (A/C) Compressor Control Circuit), P06DB-00 (Engine Oil Pressure Control Circuit Low), P103D-00 (Aspirator Valve Control Circuit Low), and P2602-00 (Coolant Pump Control Circuit Low).

Puzzled, I read up on these here forums, and discovered the situation that can come up with Fuse F12 blowing - so I pulled that fuse and tested it, and it was fine.

Next, I got a new battery, since I live in Mesa, AZ and my battery was very likely the one that came with the truck when it was new; and the trouble codes remained, so that's when I called the dealer and got the service visit set up.

This morning I dropped it off, then they called me later in the day to tell me about the fan clutch. Now - I'm at well over 77,000 miles on this truck (bought it used in 2022 with about 48,000 miles on it) - and hadn't had a single issue with it until now, so I guess I'm lucky compared to some others who've had this fan clutch problem sooner.

But to make matters worse - turns out there was a rodent living in my engine compartment at some point that had chewed through some wires, which is actually what probably caused some of those other trouble codes. The Ford service center sent me photos of the nest, which the insurance adjuster said most likely was a pack rat that had lived in there at some point. Crazy.

Between my extended service plan and my car insurance, all but $500 is taken care of, but man - what a pain in the butt.

Wow, great forum. I just looked at my fan wire harness hose-support and sure enough, it’s broken. Glad I found it before it caused issues.

Update, ordered a silicone hose with a 90 degree bend. Cut to fit, metal hose clamps, and zip ties. I doubt the zip ties will last more than a year. Any other options to tie the harness to the hose?

I just found the same thing on my 2019 Lariat. Began having check engine lights on and off with a random misfire code. Yesterday the Low Oil Pressure light and an additional Turbo/Supercharge circuit failure code.
Mine has 2-3 wires rubbed bare and 2 are completely broken. The tube holding the wiring harness is completely broken and the zip ties are holding it to the wiring harness.
Where do you find the wiring harness and what is it called?
