Okay so I've read about this and I've tried to search out the answer I was wanting and didn't really get it.

Basically I'm just wanting to know what is going on? Hose turns to mush and allows the clutch control wires to get jerked out?

Does anyone have an idea of what to look for? I've seen one suggestion of fuel hose being used to replace the factory hose?

Would finding some steel braid hose be better? Worse?

Appreciate any answers!

Pretty much anything will work as long as you maintain as close as you can the OE couture of the hose plus also still allow some flexibility for the module to be able to rock side to side (flex) to absorb the rotational forces.
The OE hose does not appear to hold up over time (heat / weather) breakdown of the rubber, any upgrade is going to be helpful.

It seems like the OEM hose is just vacuum hose quality. Fuel line would be a big improvement, steel braided hose would be overkill.

I'm not sure I'd consider anything overkill given the possible failure mode. I think I'm the one that called it vacuum line quality since that fateful Sunday when I just touched it it broke off in my hands. The hose I used to replace it was a heater hose that has the fabric reenforcement and is double the thickness. This hose likely gets a lot of heat cycling since it's directly behind the fan that is pulling hot air thru the radiator.

The odd thing is that other than these threads, one doesn't hear a lot about this failure mode. As mentioned, my friend who works at a Ford dealership up north told me they've only sold two of those fan clutches in the last two years. I would have assumed there were more. Maybe there will be more as my truck is a 2019 with 65K miles on it now so maybe the first batches are coming up on this failing.

It seems odd to me that Ford , a pretty big player, would use a piece of hose , which is almost always used for what ever is inside the hose , as some kind of support, that's the kind of thing I do when I can't get out and have to make due , can be a pretty pricey fix when they let go ... mine is a 21 and looks and feels brand new , but only 16000 miles ...
