When I lived in Vancouver, I made that trip from Horseshoe Bay and Tsawwassen many times. I was always impressed with the loading of the big rigs and tour buses. Anyone who‘s been on the morning sailings has likely made their way to the cafeteria for the Sunshine Breakfast - a BC Ferries classic.

Have a safe trip and I hope there are minimal problems to fix.

And I always, ALWAYS, give GM the middle finger when I drive by. It's the least I can do ?
Thanks Jim,

If there isn’t that much work to do on my place, at least I’ll be there with the tools and skills to help out any of the neighbours if needed.

That is what life is all about, helping. Putting our stuff away for winter but damn 70 degrees is amazing for October.

True North is heading to the Maritimes.

I’m getting my Ranger ready for it’s first real road trip - 1,700 km (1,056 mi) from Toronto to Prince Edward Island (PEI). The folks who cut the grass at my place there said it looked fine after Hurricane Fiona roared through a few weeks ago. However, my neighbour informed me that it needs some roofing, fascia, eavestrough, and shingle siding work.

I haven’t been there since I closed it up for the season October 19, 2019. After two rental seasons were cancelled due to the pandemic, it was finally open to guests this past summer. The people who clean it for me between vacationers said looked great inside but no one really looks at it with the same discerning eye as the owner, so I need to make sure water hasn’t damaged door thresholds, window sills, ceilings, etc. One hundred mile an hour winds can put rain water in places it wouldn’t normally get to.

So, I’ll pick up the necessary building materials here in Toronto before I leave - they’ll be tough or impossible to source on PEI. I’ll make sure I load up just about every tool case I own, give my Ranger a thorough pre-flight check, and head out Saturday morning. The trip will take me through eastern Ontario to Quebec, through Montreal, and Quebec City, into New Brunswick, and over the 12.9 km (8 mi) Confederation Bridge to PEI.

I’ll likely do an overnight stay in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec on Saturday. It’s a beautiful small city on the St. Lawrence River. That will put me at my place on the island early enough in the day on Sunday to see just what’s in store for me during the week ahead.

I’ll try and post some pics along the way. There are no off-road excursions planned but I’ll try and get some interesting shots just the same.

@puckdodger , I’ll honk loud as I cruise past Oshawa early in the day - probably raise a finger to the GM plant as I go by - no offence.

@CB750F , if I see that blinged out blue truck of yours, I’ll give you a friendly wave on the way through Quebec.

@Kodiacnb , if I see your Scab behind me in the Tim Hortons drive-thru in New Brunswick, you’ll find your order has been paid for by the time you get to the window.
Absolutely beautiful in the fall! We took a New England cruise in mid-October 2018 which started from Boston, went up the East Coast, and down the St Lawrence to Quebec City. Hope your place doesn't need anything too involved.

Thanks Chris - That sounds like a great trip - I’ll be driving along that river for a while. ?

Found some images I took during my solitary ferry ride over to Nanaimo, BC in January, 2010. A very memorable, positive trip. Made two ferry crossings to Newfoundland - no images that I recall.

Hey Jacob,

You wouldn’t find a ferry “through“ the Great Lakes - big lake freighters, yes - grain and iron ore ships - big, like Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald big.

You will find some ferries that cross some of the narrows or take people to islands but you’d see more of that on our east and west coasts, very much like in Maine and Washington. There is this cool ferry on Lake Huron that hinges at the bow to load vehicles - goes across a narrows via Manitoulin Island.

Well, as Cledus “The Snowman” Snow said, “I’m east bound and down”.

I've seen moose on the road only once, while on my way to visit a customer in Chicoutimi, QC on route 175. Quite an imposing creature....looked like an elderly 'hippy' with its hair hanging off of its face....can't find a similar image...perhaps it was a different animal closely related....

Great day on the road. Started early and took a few breaks along the way.…

Great weekend for seeing Fall colours.

Stopped at 1,000 Islands (near where Lake Ontario spills into the St. Lawrence River. There’s a cool, small suspension bridge to NY there and you can walk up to the centre span for a great view.

From there, it was mostly farmland along the St. Lawrence but you can only see the river in a few places. I stopped in a small regional park for lunch and a short hike in the woods to stretch my legs…

While taking an exit ramp for gas in Rivière-du-Loup, a provincial LEO came up on me fast - made me a bit nervous. Then another, coming from the opposite direction, turned on blue lights and made a quick u-turn to join him on my bumper as I pulled into the PetroCanada. It turned out the one guy needed gas and the second guy just wanted to chat with him. ?

They were taken by the Ranger. Not surprised since they were both driving F150s - kinda cool.

It was still early so I started heading south into New Brunswick where I saw the oddest band of light as the sun was starting to set...

At 7:00 pm, I was about 5 hours from my final destination and could have easily pushed through but I promised Mrs. DukeCanBuildit I’d find a place to stay tonight and finish the drive in the morning. ?

No bison that I know of unless someone has a pet. ?
Tons of them! I've only known one person whom knew of them. Everyone else I told had no idea. Glad to see people can still be surprised.

It's Buffaloland Park. My wife and I learned of them on a ferry crossing going to The Magdalen Islands (you catch that ferry in PEI), years ago. We seen the name and went there on a lark. There was no info, just the name. We were pretty surprised.
