My 65" flat screen has been fine for well over 15 years. As have my four 42" flat screen monitors, in fact none of my flat screen monitors ever have failed! I did need to replace the florescent backlight in a used 15 year IBM Thinkpad laptop, but it is still chugging along.

I am not a Luddite.

But I do expect engineering excellence. And that can't be found in modern Ford trucks. So I go back to what works and is most cost effective.

The world is going to change dramatically in the next 10 years. Best be prepared for the turmoil during the shift to the new (and different) reality.

One last thing. I love the quality of music that my analog turntable produces. It is superior to any digital music that I have. The sounds are warmer and realistic. I wouldn't have thought it possible before I picked up that quality 50+ year old turntable and rebuilt it.

All the old LPs that I have acquired needed was a deep cleaning to sound new. Amazing technology.

I am currently refurbishing a couple of 1970's era Technics audio components, paired with 2 Cerwin Vega speakers that will rattle the windows without distortion... well not much distortion. Those puppies were made for partying, designed to be LOUD.
The thing with TV's now, is that you can get a 4K 65" smart TV for less than I paid for my first 42" 1080p (non-smart) LCD.
A 65" Samsung QLED 4K will run about $500. They've truly become disposable. I remember dad taking in our 20" B&W Zenith back in the 70s to get repaired a few times.

What I paid for my 22 year old Samsung 55" could buy 15 x 65" 4K TLC flat screen! Of course, I'd doubt they would last 5 years...

It's because they have to follow a procedure. You can't just walk in and say the trans is bad and they will throw in a new one. The have to go through all the TSB's and repair steps, one at a time, with the ultimate being a new or rebuilt trans. Then you start all over again if that one has problems.
I agree and there will probably be a few instances where they claim they cannot reproduce the issue too just to extend the painful process.

At this time the only issue I have with my Ranger is an actuator in the HVAC system that keeps clicking. Right before my 3/36 warranty expired, I took it into my local Ford dealer. They had my Ranger for a week and then told me they could not reproduce the issue. When I picked up my truck, I didn't even make it out of the dealer's lot before that actuator started clicking. Go figure. If I told them I would personally pay for the repair, I am sure they would have identified the bad actuator.

Toyota is know for their V6 engines that have the power of a 4 cylinder and the fuel economy of a v8. ...
This would perfectly describe the Ford 3.0L v6 I had in my 2000 Mazda B3000 truck. That truck could not get out of its own way. At the time I owned the Mazda, I also owned a v8 Explorer. The Mazda B-Series/Ranger with a 5.0L v8 would have easily got the same fuel economy and been awesome for performance.

As I recall, the Toyota 4.0L v6 came out in 2002-2003. The first vehicle I owned with that motor was a 2003 4Runner. I do not remember much of a difference in power between the 4Runner and the v8 Explorer. The Toyota 4.0L v6 had pretty good power for that time. Sure it has been eclipsed by the modern turbo 4 cylinder engines, but it was competitive in its day.

I've had all the TSB's done, my trans has been out twice and I thought they got it correct this spring, i thought. Now at 44,000 miles it is shifting hard or slipping between 3rd and 4th. I went to the local honda dealer who had a 2023 Tacoma with 52,000 miles for sale. I drove and liked liked the Tacoma and had i tentions of trading in the Ranger and buyi g the Taco.
But when we sat down they offered me 13,000k for the truck. Now wait, Carmax offered 21,000 and KBB says its worth 23 or so on a trade in. The appraiser said "Did you notice the soft shifts from 3rd to 4th? I don't want your truck because I'd have to repair or replace the trans. I'd probably send it to the auto auction and dump it."
I'm so glad I bought the extended warranty. Please fix this POS so I can dump it!
What was done on the first two repairs? For me the first was a reflash then the second was the valve body cleaning/replacement. The third was transmission replacement.

For my HVAC issue, I got the No Problem Found response multiple times.

Before I took it in the last time, I got my infrared temp gun and took video of the Climate set at 70 degrees for both sides and 72 degrees coming out of the driver side and 120 degrees coming out of the passenger side. I also opened an official claim with Ford, I think they called it a FAR request.

That time they miraculously "found" it.

Round two with the dealer will happen eventually. I'm waiting for the actuator to completely fail before I take it back to the dealer.

I'm 70. Not sure my eyes would see the difference from 12' back!
🤓

I find it curious that TVs drop in price while necessities continue to rise.

it seemingly always comes down to who you get working your case. my local dealer has a fantastic salesman that will run people down if his buyers don't get help from service. that's a pretty priceless asset and is probably the the main reason i would still consider a ford.

kind of a shame. that dealer was fantastic 15 years ago, but i think ford corporate really cracked down on warranty claims.

anyway, i poke my head into these forums every now and then and there's always a thread like this in the top 10 trending. i'm sitting with nearly 87k miles and my warranty runs out next summer. y'all got me having conversations in my mind that i shouldn't be having...

As much as I see people hate on Toyota around here, at least they admit and fix the issue. Ford just says no it’s normal and will do whatever it can to screw you over.
I don't know, I had a clutch recall and had to pay a portion. To be fair I don't remember the exact reason they charged me. I wasn't past the deadline, that I remember.
And frames were still rusting past 2009 models. I had a 2009 and it was rusting when I traded it.
Tacoma is the only line of vehicle that I read people apologizing for. Like your frame is rusting to shit and somehow its ok because it's a TaCo! Just fluid film it! whatever that is. I should not have to buy a vehicle and then apply rustproofing. Read some of the Tacoma pages it like Tacoma owners get mad at people mad because their frames are rusting and people are upset about it.

This is why I don't hold loyalty to vehicle makers. They don't give a shit about the buyer. Ranger transmissions should have been an automatic recall, fix it right or replace them.

I'm looking at mid size again, and while I had issues with a Tacoma, I'd buy another one. Same for a Colorado and Ranger.

You've got more than two brain cells... you're not missing anything.

The transmissions in the new Tacoma are failing as early as 8000 miles. The Tundra engines are imploding. For awhile, Toyota dealerships wouldn't take Tundras in on trade because the engines were failing so often and they didn't want to be stuck with the repair. Toyota isn't reliable anymore. They've fallen prey to the same crap all the other manufacturers have. The last good, reliable engine from them was the 22RE but people keep drinking the Kool-Aid and spreading the lies.
My next door neighbor and friend is an NCSHP Trooper and has has lived next to me for over 20 years. He is a diehard Tacoma fan. He had a first gen Tacoma 4x4 TRD V6 when he moved in. I've seen him trade for newer models 2 times now. All have been NA V6 drive trains. But he has refused to move from his older reliable 3rd gen Tacoma TRD, and he is adamant about it .

He says the 4th gen Tacomas are no longer a reliable truck, just like all the competition.

im am not saying Toyota is Gods greatest gift to us like the Tacoma forum might say, but in my experience and many people I personally know, Toyota did leagues better than ford when issues occur. I am not saying they are perfect, I think they all suck. It’s just who sucks the least. Really now that I think about it, most other brands are better about fixing issues than ford.

Ranger is my daily driver and even with all its faults and crappy 💩 transmission, it's still a blast to drive and Tacomas just aren't... and a Ridgeline??? I can't even maintain eye contact unless it's a girl driving it ...
In this day and age of gender obfuscation - are those really men driving Ridgelines ?
