At ~ 70k on my 21 Ranger I started getting the herkie jerkies when my 10 speed shifts. Im now at 75K .My questions are .......

1.) Do I need to go into the dealer for some sort of software update or will SYNC on my 2021 perform some sort of auto modem update on its own to potentially fix this issue ? I had the sync shutoff on purpose for quite awhile but re-enabled it this morning.

2.) What has everyone else done to permanently solve the rough shifting issue ? TIA - J

DPFE module/sensor has fixed many rough shifting transmissions. Easy fix. Search around lots of info on it here.

Good luck! Hopefully it is just the DPFE sensor as mentioned above. Lots of info here on trans issues with a simple search.

Here's your summary.

If you have an extended warranty.

Take it to the dealer and let them deal with it.

No warranty.

Replace the DPFE.

Drain and fill with fresh fluid and 10oz of Lubegard Platinum. If you see improvement, in 10k do another drain and fill this time use 1oz per qt of fluid you're replacing of Lubegard Platinum.

Also, not a bad time to replace the filter.

If that doesn't work....probably trans time.

--Edit--

No your Synch not being able to update won't change anything with the TCU/ECU those have to be updated with Ford's scan tool thing, forget what its called.

I tried the DPFE module doing it myself. $31 on Amazox ....I would say my harshness - jerkey shifts appears down 30%-40% ....so I would say thats probably the best Im going to get and a win. Thanks for the replies and advice. My advice to anyone is buy the type sensor with the hoses already attached.
