Hey all,

Has anyone reset their transmission’s adaptive learning via Forscan?

Thinking about doing it to see if it resolves any of the clunky shifting. I drained and filled my fluid (no new filter) about 2.5k miles ago at 56.5k miles and it’s still got that clunky shifting.

Any advice is appreciated.

I just picked up a 2021 a few weeks ago. I had that random clunky shifting. I still need to change the fluid and all but I did reset the adaptive transmission. Naturally it was super hard and rough when I first drove it but it has smooth out quite a bit. Every so often I still have a random hard shift here and there but for 98% of the time it's been smooth.

I have not reset it using Forscan but have reset more than once using my Livernois tuner.

You definitely know it changes.

Well, I can't find my own post on this exact thing,
but here is what I did. Thank you TJC.

I did the top 3 items, and did not do #4 'resume adaptive learning'.
Over a year later, adaptive learning is still disabled and I still like it that way.

If you suspect the adaptive tables might be corrupted, you only need to do line 2,
"Clear Transmission Adaptive Tables"
Your Ranger will continue the learning process, but from the new truck point.

edit: fixed "need to need to"

Thanks! I think I may replace the DPFE sensor (as it seems to be a common issue) first to see if that helps before doing any Forscan stuff.

I just looked up a video on YouTube on how to replace the sensor and it looks pretty simple. However, he did say that his truck was throwing a code—can I replace even though there’s no code?

Did you change the sensor on your truck?
I did not but have done a lot of research on it. My 22 only has 27,000 miles on it. It causes all sorts of weird problems before it throws a code. Cheap and easy starting point.

It doesn't always throw a code and many have had to change it out. It's just another routine maintenance job you should probably add in every 25K - 30K or so because it's a cheap enough part.

Cody @Trash Panda did a thread showing how to change it out and what tools are needed. There's a lot of pictures detailing the process step by step .

Yes, no code for me. Just always felt like I was driving my old 10th Gen Civic SI in 5th gear going 15mph through the neighborhood..😆

I use Forscan and use option # 2 like TWK described above. I had started experiencing the clunky shifting between Park, Reverse and Drive so I cleared it and it fixed my issue. With that said I simply started doing this as part of my Oil change interval. This tool is worth the $20 a year subscription for this alone.

I have a bone stock 2020 with about 85k miles.

I've too have had these issue for some time, but it's so intermittent it makes it difficult to take it to the shop (I have the extended warranty).

I first tried the oil change. That didn't work at all. I also reset the transmission with the FORSCAN, which effectively did nothing.

Then I took it into the shop. They diagnosed the EGR DPFE problem. They fixed/replaced it under warranty. It helped, but didn't fix it. So, I guess I'll just have to wait until it craps the bed and hopefully happens (if it happens)under the warranty period.

Just changed the DPFE sensor and immediately felt a difference! Hope it wasn’t all in my head and hope it lasts. Thanks for everyone’s help!

Thanks @Trash Panda for the great tutorial!
On a side note 1,000 miles ago an actual fluid flush at the dealer has helped smooth things out as well.
