I'll have to hook up my sct live link to the ranger and see if it has visibility on an oil pressure pid.

Out of curiosity, what was the ambient temperature outside when you got those pictures? The Colorado ZR2 gas engine I had before the Tremor had oil pressure and trans temp displayed in the info center. The ZR2 had a dedicated trans cooler that kept the temps really low. Curious on the Ranger now.

Outside temp was 55 degrees...probably why the trans temp didn't go up so fast.
But, from all the posts I've read about the trans jerking when first start up, I would imagine that it's simply because the trans fluid, even if outside temps were warm, takes a few minutes/miles to warm up to proper operating temps..

Thanks for the info! Appears Ford runs their trans temps a bit warmer than Chevrolet did. Good info to know for preventative maintenance plans.

Gross horsepower is supposed to be the measurement of power output from the flywheel. My guess is the scan gauge is taking the "power output" reading from the Ford ECU and translating this into an estimated horsepower output number relative to the OEM meter. If you go to "Driver Information" on your cluster display you can see the power meter I'm referencing. It brings up a power output gauge for each wheel and displays on the dash. (XLT / Lariat trim at least.)
None of that fanciness on the XL but I know which readings you're talking about.

So in his photos, hose are very small numbers and must be at idle?

I suppose they go up to 200+ under load?

Yeah, at idle....one is higher ...I blipped the throttle.
Haven't taken it on the expressway to run it hard, but when I do I'll post back.

New Scan Gauge lll...it is bigger than the old Gauge ll, runs $249.95, and you can only get it thru Scan Gauge company...no external sales like Amazon/E Bay.
Nice thing about it is that the X Gauges that you had to manually program into the old unit are already pre-loaded into the new lll. Lots of data available, fuel loops, boost, all kinds of temps, all kinds of fuel monitors, hp/torque gauges.
My main need was to keep track of temps while towing our travel trailer.
have to ask you sir - will you be planning on swapping to the aluminum oil-pan with drain plug since you tow?

I ask because I am curious as to what effect it would have on fluid temp. I'm wanting to do this swap myself.

I just checked using sct live link and no engine oil pressure pid available. Tons of transmission data to be had though.

I may at some time in the future, but there would have to be some data between stock and aftermarket showing a dramatic difference.
To me a difference of a few degrees wouldn't be worth the $$$. Something like a 20 degree change, I would consider it a worthwhile mod.

If the scan guage can display "octane adjust ratio" or "oar", that will tell you the rolling average of your fuel quality. Ranges from -1 to +1. -1 indicates excellent fuel octane level and +1 indicates bad fuel octane level. 0 would be neither bad or good.

Thank you, I'm deeply intrigued by this and love information. 40+ years of driving that FJ40 and always keeping an eye on the temperature and amp meter is a hard habit to break.

Just installed a Scan Gauge lll which has the regular guages and a simple way to access trans temps...
First photo is after driving around 10 miles in 15 minutes, stop n go, outside tamp was 55 degrees.
Second photo is after round trip, around 20 miles, 30 minutes, stop n go and 45-55 mph speeds.
Coolant temps go up very quickly and level off between 192 and 199 depending on speed, stop signs/lights.
Trans temps are slow to rise....first 5 miles never got over 100 degrees, then slowely go up.

I have the Do-Hicky thing that installs the Ford Performance Tune. It has a gauge function that can display all sorts of stuff like bio-rhythm feedback, is the driver ovulating and other parameters but not oil pressure. Admit I’m old school that monitoring Oil Pressure, Water Temperature, and Battery Volts/Amps easily is the best way to avoid issues along with Preventive Maintenance. Is what it is.
i have the same and i dont know what 80% of the stuff it monitors is lol.

I think I'd be more worried about the battery charge voltage myself, as 13.1 is LOW.

Nothing to worry about. Variable voltage vehicles will do that more than you believe

Ah.....but can you get oil pressure with that fancy setup grasshopper? I know you can't pull an oil temp....we don't have a sensor. I use a wireless OBDII reader and OBD Fusion with a 7" Fire HD tablet. $24.95 for the refurbished tablet, $4.99 for OBD Fusion + $14.99 for the 315 sensor PID files for my 19' Ford Ranger. I was running an old version of Torque Pro but my old tablet went bye bye. I just put the new setup together this past weekend. Great gauge customization with OBD Fusion! I will post some pics soon.....

BTW...your trans temp is fine...I get to 210-212F fairly regularly.....
