Amazing how my less than average connections never failed on my 92 F 250 for over 20 yrs.?
I guess we didn't have "experts" around to tell us we were doing it wrong !!! :like:

I installed the Redarc brake controller myself and also thought the wires in the harness were a little short/hard to get to. One thing I might suggest.....as I found it made a BIG difference in general accessibility for doing all this wiring and securing of the modules is to remove the drivers seat. It's simple....just 4 bolts and the wiring connector... but it gave me a much more "human" approach to all this instead of laying on my back...upside down... and trying to hold/splice all this together. Once the seat was out of the way, I found it was much easier to get to all this.

Same for my FJ40, several crimped butt connectors for over 40 years. Many with plenty of water expodure, invluding salt water.

However, being cautious, the low-voltage contractor is right, imo. For the absolute safest, somewhat reasonable approach, soldering would be best.

That said, I used Wirefy butt connectors with built-in shrink wrap for my TBC.

no fire, no problem

I am super frustrated. I bought the oem controller from redarc directly. I've gotten everything done except for connecting the controller to the truck itself. What I can't do is get the dang wire's connected via butt connectors because the truck's pigtail wires are so SHORT! They don't extend at all into the footbed so I have be completely upside down with my head under the dash. It's just impossible to hold a butt connector on a wire and have the placement right while also holding a crimping tool and getting the pressure right. How have any of you done this? The only way I've seen to make it longer is to cut the entire "braid" of wires open but I don't know if that would make things better or worse...
I have the tow package on my 2020 Fx4 XLT. Yup, the stupid wires for the controller are WAY too short. Like Ford wanted to make us who install our own brake controllers suffer for our independent approach. Good thing I have done yoga or else I might not have been able to work upside down with my head stuffed under the dash, chin on my chest, next to the brake pedal and my feet on the ceiling.
