Traction control still happening when disabled

2020 XLT w/FX4. Don't have 4wd nor any terrain control mode enabled. Just had our first snow. When I hit the traction control button, it says it is turning it off, and the traction control off light comes on always. However, traction control seems to still be happening, but only sometimes. If I goose the throttle on snow, the "slipping truck" light comes on, and I can hear and feel the ABS pump slowing down the real wheel. I.e. traction control.

But then sometimes when I disable traction control, it works as expected - no traction control happens when I goose throttle.

Has anyone else noticed this? I tried it on/off multiple times, and only about 1/2 the time it would actually disable traction control (even though every time it said so with a note on the display and light).

You can hold the traction control button for 7 seconds and turn off advance track. Even then the computer with still pull power. I found it best to put the truck in 4wd so all 4 wheels are spinning and go have fun.

Yeah, even with it "fully disabled" it will still kick on if you get too sideways. Current best fun having mode is to lock the diff then hold the TC button to disable. This will net you the most fun but once you break like 25-30mph it will unlock your diff and TC will start kicking back on again. Another thread about it here:

Thanks. I wasn’t aware of the long press advance trac disable. That seems to do the trick.

According to the owner's manual, there are 3 different systems - Roll Stability Control, Electronic Stability Control, and Traction Control. A momentary button press disables Traction Control. A 5 second or greater button press or 4WD Low disables both Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control. Roll Stability Control cannot be disabled with the button press. It is disabled when in Sand Mode in your Terrain Management.

So if you're so inclined, put the truck into Sand Mode and have at it.

There's more info in your owner's manual including the warnings about laws of physics, personal injury or property damage, and death. Interestingly, Ford also warns about aftermarket speakers possibly affecting Electronic Stability Control.

in the newer mustangs with similar nannies, you could remove some under hood fuses and the car would run fine but light up the dash warning junk. made a huge difference. car went from fun to sinful... surely something like that can be done on the rangers.

Ok, i put a thread on this a while back ago.....
This is what i have noticed on my xlt 4x2.

With traction on, spinning the wheels causes the engine and the tranny to power down, abs applies brakes where needed to keep all tires spinning at the same rate, with accelerometers, g force sensors and all the fancy computer stuff. Science.

With the traction control off,
It is like a poor mans rear locker. Remeber the old days of applying parking brake to get the wheel that is not spinning to spin?
Well, i have found when the tire is spinning, much faster and at a different rate than the other wheels, it brakes the tire that is spinning to try and get the open axle to spin the other tire, the one that is not spinning, so it does a balanci g act with the axle to get the tires to spin at the same rate using abs,
But...
Not taking power away from tranny or engine, if you go into a turn to fast and try to drift, computer kicks in and does not allow it because of the rollnover features, accelerometers kick in senses steering angle, g forces and more science stuff and takes away power.

With advanced trac off.............hold button down for several seconds
It turns everything off like a sports cars, track mode. Or race car track mode or whatever the different brands call it. Now an old fashioned car, if the go tire is in the air spinning it stays spinning no abs to apply brake to spinning tire to get the tire on the ground to spin.
I think this should be my next you tube video, my driveway gets the rear tire to come off the ground of any vehicle because of the angle. Unless modified.
That is how i llayed around with it on my pickup, and mudding, and sand and snow. Very confusing at first and took a while for me to figure it out.

Reminds me of a time when I was filling up at a gas station. It's Houston and hot as balls in the summer so I left the truck running, doors closed, AC on full send. This Karen filling up next to me says you are not supposed to fill up with your car running. I immediately look at her with a kind of crazy eyed look and said, Lady (long pause while still looking crazy at her), I do a lot of things I'm not supposed to do. I then turned my head side ways and smiled and snarled. She proceeded to put the hose up and get in her car.

I am pretty sure she did not find the encounter as entertaining as I did.

I also removed the dongle key from my Mustang to 100% disable the nannies.
