Do not ask me why as I do not work for Toyota(and never plan to) but in order to set the hubs in locked 4x4 mode(and back to auto mode) you have to use a supplied tool or socket and ratchet/breaker bar.........

Apparently the dial like a manual locking hub is too hard to use.and not allowed any more......

For those wondering this is on the new 76 Series Land Cruiser

Anti-prank protection, maybe? The majority of Land Cruisers will spend the majority of their existence on bare pavement, making them vulnerable to mall rats, who are wandering around looking for dropped change to buy a vape cartridge to share, and seeing a 4X4 with Warn-style hubs, turn only one side. Requiring a socket is a preventative measure.

Or maybe Warn has a patent on their twist knob that can't be licensed.

Yeah, the OEM ones that many of the Australians use is Asian. It is similar to a Warn, but who can say which is stronger. Also I'm not to sure the 76 will be available in the states anyway
