Toyota, Honda and Ford are at the realization Chinese EV production is so sophisticated & advanced they have no hope of catching up. But I guess this is what happens when America was looking for cheap labor and sold out to China years ago. Now it's come back full circle to bite them in the A$$.

https://finance.yahoo.com/markets/stocks/articles/not-survive-toyota-honda-ford-104500441.html

A whopping 70% of all new electric vehicles now hail from China far outpacing Tesla and others in sales, and scaling worldwide operations as a result. It has automakers like Toyota, Honda and Ford panicking about projects and overhauling strategy, with Ford executives saying even three years ago that China was way ahead of the game.

"We have no chance against this," Mibe (Honda CEO) said upon a visit to a Shanghai parts factory, commenting on its seamless automation across all levels of production. Logistics, procurement and all aspects of the process were so automated, in fact, that he did not spot a single human worker on the supplier's floor.

Ford and Toyota leaders have expressed similar sentiments regarding Chinese makers' sheer speed in not just building cars, but designing them.

China is known for its expedient development of all sorts of products, and its ability to bring vehicles from concept to market in half the time of competitors.

This week, some experts doubled down on Tesla stock as prices slid, while others warned of a crash. Only Rivian and Lucid are showing promise in the face of deterioration elsewhere in the sector.

I try my best to buy what I can that's made in America but it's hard to find (good) quality stuff from anywhere now! Even the things M-I-A are sometimes not the best quality now because everything is made so poor. Heck, try and find a flag that's made in America that has a good review. The ones they advertise on Fox News (Allegiance) I looked them up and their reviews are bad saying the flags rip, fade and just fall apart. Oh and they were almost double the price too.

Some of the most recent reviews.

Fell Apart in 8 Months - All Hype, Zero Quality
Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2026

Flag is constantly getting twisted up, the pole is completely destroyed from Southern California "weather", and worst of all, the flag itself is falling apart. The end is tattered and shredded in multiple places, and I cannot in good conscience keep it up any longer. It lasted all of eight months. Allegiance sells us on American quality and craftsmanship, but this flag is not that. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I need to find the article, but I read one recently where Farley went to visit a Chinese EV plant and he said it was 100% automated and producing cars at a crazy pace. It left him feeling discouraged.

Found it - https://futurism.com/robots-and-machines/western-executives-shaken-visiting-china
I saw that article last year and then there's this one where Farley was driving a Chinese EV and loved it.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a62694325/ford-ceo-jim-farley-daily-drives-xiaomi-su7/

Farley admitted that while he normally doesn't like talking about the competition very much, Ford imported a Xiaomi SU7 to Chicago via Shanghai, and he's been driving it for the past six months. He also said he "doesn't want to give it up," citing a radical approach to competing against Chinese automakers such as Xiaomi and BYD.

I'm finding lately that stuff from China is very high quality if you don't buy the really low end stuff. I recently bought a mini excavator that is made with an actual Japanese Kubota diesel engine, high end Italian valves and load sensing pump with a 3 year warranty through US dealers. Higher quality then the Kubota I looked at with similar specs and commercial use ratings. $20k compared to over $44k for a Kubota. They are building new factories that focus on quality products and use cutting edge technology with minimal human interface. US manufacturers should be scared as consumers start feeling comfortable making larger purchases from Chinese brands. Heck all the cells in my solar storage batteries are A+ quality from China. Chinese companies sell everything at manufacturing cost and at the end of the year the Government gives them a check for a percentage of sales value that is their profit. No corporate greed involved. Next will be a skid-steer to play with.

This is a result of years of pushing manufacturing offshore with corporate paychecks reaching ridiculous levels causing US products to become over priced and unaffordable. I originally didn't like it, but now realize it's here to stay.

My studio uses quite a lot of videography equipment from DJI, and lighting equipment from Godox, Naanlite, Aputure / Amaran products that I consider to be some of the most reliable and top-of-the line photography gear available.

Agree with the sentiment that Chinese manufacturing is not exclusively junk.

Well Hyundai is forging ahead with it's $12.6 b EV plant in Georgia - while Ford, GM and Stellantis are licking their wounds and taking their write offs. Since Chinese made EVs possibly may never be sold in the US market - Hyundai sees the future opportunity. Yes it's only a matter of time...........
Also interesting that Hyundai is building a steel plant in the US, which will be cost effective in supplying their US auto factories.

I think motorcycles are an interesting case study here because their level of competition is further developed on a global scale. One of the internet’s best motorcycle channels made a good video.

So even China has to eventually build to a price and there will be trade offs.
