It seems to me that the touch screen takes way to strong of a press to make a selection. Is there any way to make it more sensitive to touch?

I don’t think it’s like that at all.

try the reset people talk about… I’ve never personally done it sorry.. if that doesn’t fix it I would say your touch screen could be going bad which my brain tells me means it will need replacing… but my brain has sent me down the wrong path plenty of times before… but my younger brother (who is my IT guy aswell said it’s usually (some sensor for the screen is failing) it can be fixed but it would require removing the unit, taking it apart, removing said magic interface sensor thingy, putting a new thingy, amd lastly reassembly and reinstalling the unit…. So basically replace the unit and then the old one will get refurbished and resold after it’s repaired… so it’ll be a unit replacement.. unless the factory reset fixes the slip up.. it shouldn’t be hard at all. I personally don’t apply any pressure to the screen.. it should function with contact only not pressure. Like phones.. long press short press not to be hard press soft press..(my brother who I go to with all my computer, phone, tv, blah blah explanation to me was you don’t need force with tech… why do you think all of us tech nerds who only deal with computers have such silly soft hands ?.)… he did say in some specific cases hard and soft pressure will be used but highly unlikely with our truck infotainment units…
Sorry this probably doesn’t help at all.. other than maybe help guide you to take the truck in to ford or your preferred technician for diag. And prepare to have to replace the unit if not covered under warranty ?

Is this with your phone plugged in? Mine does this almost always when I first plug in my phone. The remedy is to disconnect it and plug it back in and problem solved 100% of the time.

I would certainly think there is a sensitivity adjust function. But mine is very sensitive. Heck, seems like when I touch audio, I hear something through the speakers before I am done touching it!

Mine (19 lariat) works well, but sometimes there’s a little delay and then it moves. I never press it hard tho

I see this problem when using Waze to choose routes. I'll get a menu of options, but I'll have to press the option I want several times until it takes. If there's an adjustment, I'd like to try it.
