Please pardon my long winded essay, but I feel if I explain this well, you guys might have an easier time dispensing wisdom. I am constantly amazed at the things you all know, and know how to do.

Yesterday my touchscreen on my '19 XLT looked a little wonky in that it seemed to want to disconnect and then reconnect to my phone. It finally settled down and was fine by the time I got to work.

This morning when I cranked it up, there were some of the phone info/icons missing completely. When I touched the screen to try and get something to happen, the screen would blink from the home page...right back to the home page. Fan speed number would not show, volume number would not show either. Compass would disappear and then reappear randomly. Screen would not allow me to navigate from home screen at all. I could change radio station manually but not choose from presets. Fan speed could be changed manually too.

When I got to work I restarted the truck, thinking maybe there was some kind of update and reboot needed. I immediately lost the whole screen, and radio function completely. No volume at all, no channel change. Dead screen.

I did what all non-handy people would do and went to YouTube to see if there was a simple fix...there Was! Hold radio power and forward skip button together til screen shuts down and the system reboots!

When I started the truck after work, the system had come back to life, supposedly, but I tried the YouTube fix anyway and let it reboot. Everything worked as per normal all the way home.

Have any of you experienced this anomaly? Is this a preview of troubles to come? Or might this be a one-off and I can not worry my truck is about to have bad problems that can't be fixed this decade?

Chris, I had something similar happen to me back in the spring. When I started up my truck the screen was black and frozen, it looked like it was in night mode. It wouldn't shut down either it stayed that way and turning it on and off did nothing. We were out running errands at the time and left it like that while we shopped. After sitting for about 45 minutes I got back in and it was fine and has been ever since. It never happened again and has been fine since. Hopefully yours will be good now. I just chalked it up that mines possessed.

The only gripe I have with my 19 Ranger is that dam Sync screen or what ever it's doing with the USB connections to my iPhone and iPad...at least once a month, I get in, it doesn't see either...sometimes it's not even providing power...I literally have to shut her down, get out of the truck for 10 minutes and then everything's back to normal...

Luckily mine has been pretty damn good. Occasionally I’ll plug in my iphone and it won’t detect CarPlay and I have to unplug the phone and re-plug it in. That’s about it.

@Chris M - is your software up to date? I had an issue once where it was being wonky and completely shut down. After about 10 minutes, it came back up and noted that the software had been updated. It's odd to me that it would do that while I was driving, but you may want to check that.

I've learned the 2-finger reset and have to employ it far too regularly.

Just had to do it again today actually.

Sync should be spelled Suck.

Had the same thing happen to mine as well the other night. Haven't had it happen since.. Figured it was the Sync gremlins causing havoc again. May try the 2 button reset anyway.

I don't know if you have it set for automatic updates via wifi but if you do then sometimes it will do downloads then reboot a few times. i have seen this in the past make sure to do all the updates and key cycle the ignition switch on/start/run too.
