Well... there's ethics... and then there's a company that intentionally let people die just so they didn't have to admit to putting out a bad tire. I mean, that goes a little too far in my book, I guess.

And then, instead of taking their losses and dissolving away into obscurity, they had the audacity to just rebrand as Bridgestone and keep right on making tires. It's probably just my own thing, but that just really sticks in my craw.
Yet you drive a Ford? They were just as guilty for not changing the brand of tire sooner if they knew they had an issue. Plus Ford still uses them. Best sell your ranger and get something else.

And don't forget the ford pinto... but I guess people potentially burning alive doesn't ding on your ethics meter.
Hell ihope you don't own guns, those can kill people and the manufactures know...

Hopefully you never own anything with a Takata airbag.

I appreciate you sharing your unsolicited opinion to my response to the o.p. Oh and I nicely tried to deflect but since you continue I'll just let you know I didn't recommend a firestone tire. I made a recommendaton of a suredrive which is a rebranded kumho.

My understanding is that the problem was Ford recommended a tire pressure that was too low to mask suspension issues. The tire itself wasn’t to blame. That being said after a lot of research I chose the Firestone Destination at/2 and am very happy in the snow, on the highway, in the rain and light off-roading. I went with 255/70/17. It’s just about the lightest tire in its class.

My fleet work truck has Yokohama Geolanders on it. 55k and still look like new. They are starting to get a little noisy, but the truck has no carpet or sound deadening like our trucks. Does good in The snow, but the truck doesn't see mud, so I can't say how they do in the sloppy stuff.

I have been very impressed with Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires. Being in mid-Missouri I have been through most conditions and the Falkens have done well. Mud, Snow, Rain and dry. I also like that during the high temps we get here in summer the wear is minimal which is surprising to me for being 3peak rated.

Maybe in an absolute emergency to get to the nearest shop. Other then that I would not bother
i don't want to end up with a tire i have to worry about going flat in the middle of the winter or worst blowing out on the highway. i would rather repair it and wait until next spring if it was safe to do so; i just bought out the lease so my truck money fund is low!

i attached a picture of where it is. i doubt any shop would repair it for me, although i haven't asked....everyone wants me to make an appointment for a flat repair so i have been putting off going and now once i realized where it is i probably won't. the screw is circled in red and i found some hankook manual that said only to repair inside the red lines i drew.

thank you all for the suggestions...i am reading them all and checking local prices and will decide soon. i will let u folks know what i end up with!

Yeah that is the NO NO ZONE right there. Some places might but chances are they will say no.

That said I would find a good local tire shop to get some tire installed. It does not have to be the Ford Dealer for this one unless they have some stupid tire deal going on

I'm in Mid Missouri also, one hour east of Columbia. And I had great experiences with the Falken WildPeak AT3W on my 2002 Jeep Liberty and 2016 Jeep Cherokee. And my son runs them on his 2019 Jeep Compass Trailhawk.

Around here only the Interstate and US highways get repaved with asphalt. All states highways and secondary roads get chip seal every few years. They just chip sealed most of the paved letter roads and also chip sealed Highway 19 from Montgomery City to Scott's Corner. Chip seal is pretty hard on tires.

Tire shops probably won't fix that, but I'd absolutely stick a plug in it and not worry about it. Unless you street racing and drifting your truck, it would probably hold for 10s of thousands of miles.

Mine are 265/70/17 E rated. Those pigs are 52lbs a piece lol. Don’t need the load capacity but the cut/puncture resistance is nice. Getting a flat in gator and snake filled swamps is not fun especially at night. Plus some of the boat ramps have jagged concrete under the water. Not sure if the heavier duty tires make a difference but I figured it couldn’t hurt lol. 60k out of an aggressive tire is a win in my books!
i went with a size above you at a 275/70/17 wanted something inbetween a 33 and a 31

You mean like the square body Chevys with the tank outside the fame rail. The one Sixty Minutes showed us would rupture and ignite in a T bone. But... only if you they used pyrotechnic devices to get ignition.

I had a screw in almost the same location on my passenger front stock Hankook. Figured I'd just try patching it myself with a decent quality plug kit; I've been running on the plug for ~5k miles now with no pressure loss.
I was told it was "too close" to the edge to repair.

you could ask a shop to put the spare tire on that wheel if that tire is un-patchable.

Also, my plan is to go to the Falken Wildepeak AT3s; I want the 3 peak rating for winter driving and my off-road driving is on the rocks. Probably pull that trigger next spring and ride out the stock tires for 1 more winter (currently @ 30k miles).
