Tire Choices Eliminated in California

Wow, I just read if your car or truck is registered in California you can only replace the tires with a limited number of approved tires that meet their energy standards.

This basically will eliminate good aftermarket tires with better traction and off road capabilities. Swapping them out after inspection can result in huge fines should the flock cameras or police cameras recognize the thread pattern and catch you. Talk about a ridiculous law that will probably result in more accidents and higher tire prices. I had heard this was comming, but looks like it will become law now.

It’s not a rumor. They tried that crap 10 years ago after my dad retired, moved to Texas, and had already been living there a couple years. They tried to say he owed them “X amount” based on the income taxes the state lost since he left. He got attorneys involved and basically told the CA tax people to kick rocks.

I don’t know all the details but what they were trying to do was flat out illegal. They knew that, and that’s why they backed off. That’s what CA does. They bully people and come up with totally illegal “regulations” to push people into doing what the state wants. Total communist dictatorial state… That’s why we’re leaving asap. Been applying to jobs left and right the last few weeks. We’re freakin’ DONE with this place!

I’m willing to bet the manufacturers of the approved tires paid out some big bribes or certain lawmakers made some well timed investments in those manufacturers…
