Kind of depends who makes the aftermarket, some are good others not so.

I did OEM the first time since it looks nicer and has the shades and "Ranger" across the bottom. If it cracks again I'm doing the cheaper aftermarket. Was iirc $200 difference.

Mine cracked when I washed the truck last summer, hot day + cold water. I tried to get it under warranty but of course they insisted it was a "microcrack that couldn't been seen" that suddenly got bigger so no coverage.

My father in law use to work in the glass plant in Tennessee that made all the glass for Ford and Nissan before they sold it to a private company. I got the royal tour of the place 30 years ago. Fascinating process and it’s like looking into hell is certain places in the factory.

Long story short. Ford branded glass back then was the top tier product defect free. The ‘seconds’ were then sold to the other competitors that repair auto glass. Seconds would be very minor flaws and the silk screen would also be of lesser quality.

Old addage of you get what you pay for applies here as well

I always get OEM windshields ( I've had several replaced, unfortunately)
Safelite replaces them for me and my glass coverage takes care of it with no deductible.
For some silly reason I just like knowing it has the Ranger brand on it.
All that said, it matters not what we think. Get what you can afford and are comfortable with.

OEM says sound screen on lower edge its acoustical. go OEM
Thats what I was thinking about too, every little advantage we can get over road noise :)
when I first got my truck and seen that on the window I had to look it up because I didnt even know what it was or how they could make a window that dampened sound
One of these days if I ever win the lotto I will sound deaden the doors too :)

i had a new one put in last week. it was not the oem. looks fine fits fine. safelite claims the only difference is the new one does not say ranger, or have the made in usa factory whatever sticker. however, i have my doubts on that. ive had my truck for about 34k now and in that time ive never felt like i was getting sun burned inside the cab until the new glass went in. last weekend i drive about six hours total, hot sunny day and on the way home noticed both legs were red on top where the sun got me in the cab. so apparently the new glass does not block as much uv or something.

So they lied to you. I'd get on the horn and do a F'n chargeback for a defective windshield. Let them fight with the CC co, and take some screenshots of the claims online, pics of your legs, and/or save the phone conversation (everyone should have a call recorder app).I do this stuff all the time and even archive the webpages in case they alter them afterwards, which many places will do. Have dealt with too many shady places and I've lost all patience for their BS.

Who warrants a breakable glass item such as a windshield in the first place?
How is someone going to prove a defective windshield?
One unseen small chip in the corner can cause a crack to propagate across the whole windshield.
Ask me how I know.

I didn't say warranty I said defective. And misleading advertisement. Not saying he'll get his money back but it is pretty easy to do a chargeback and ruffle them up.

The same thing happened to me see my last post in here. "Unseen Microchip".

My '19 Ranger was so new at the time the windshield broke, I had to wait the better part of a year before an OEM windshield was in the system. The cost was $1,200 ($500 deductible). I don't have personal experience, but a good friend owns a newer Expedition and had a non-OEM windshield installed. He made the installer take it out and install an OEM Sound Screen windshield - too much noise from the non-OEM. Wife's Escape received a crack during a cross-country trip. I was not with her and talked to the installer on the phone the Insurance company linked to. They wanted to install non-OEM glass and assured me it was as good as OEM. I said no, I want an OEM. I was not there and wife allowed the non-OEM glass to be installed. Both she and the installer agreed the glass had major distortions along each "A" pillar. Glass was replaced with an OEM Sound Screen. When you go though your insurance company the installer wants to install a non-OEM windshield and charge the insurance full OEM price in order to maximize profit. Not right, but understandable - not all will do this but it's pretty obvious many do.
