I saw a facebook post where someone bought a new 60" tv to replace a broken one. They put the old broken one in the box an packed up up like it just came an left it out for someone to take.

The Spineless legal system that refuses to hold scumbags accountable is why thieves are getting bolder. They all need to eat a bullet.
If its a homeless/drug addict person there's not much you can do. What do they care about a criminal record. If caught they are usually in jail over night then let go. Camera's for crime are only useful if someone get's assaulted, murdered or abducted.
I had nothing in my truck. One night the door lock was ripped out for a chocolate I had in my glove box in my underground parking.

That sucks for sure. In Houston if you leave anything in plain view in a vehicle that is unattended, it will get broken into. Does not matter where or what it is, if it appears to be of value or could possibly hold something of value, broken window and stolen.

Sorry to hear that. People, leave anything of value under the seat or at least in the back seat by the floor mats. At least the tint will hide it. I heard even chargers/cords attract thieves. Tuck those wires. When they see a cord they thing there is something of value in the vehicle

This happened in broad daylight.

Stole my backpack from the front seat, it was empty. Maybe a pocket hand sanitizer in there, and a snickers bar.

Alarm did not go off.

Stay vigilant, friends.

Sorry to hear about this, man. A similar "smash and grab" happened to me years ago when I had parked my then-ride Honda Element in a state park to go hiking. Insurance covered the window, and the thief must have been pretty disappointed with his (her?) ill-gotten gains. As a teacher, all I had in the purloined briefcase were books!

Never leave anything in the truck that a person can see when looking in the windows. They won't break in if they can't see anything that might be of value.

I work in the security industry, so here is my $.02….
Video is mostly useless, and that was before masks.
In Canada if you catch the offender red-handed and hold them while waiting for police, you will be charged with unlawful detention and the offender is free to go.

I was once told by a police officer, shot leave them lay, you know nothing, let someone else find them & call the police.
With cameras literally everywhere be sure to let us know how this works out for you if you try it.

Would probably be the single time that camera evidence was actually used.

[hijack] Other end of the spectrum….after trying to get the local police force to deal with property damage / vandalism, we were told “maybe you should move” [/hijack]

This just happened last night. At least here we don't punish the Good Samaritans. LINK

Oregon slowly turning into California#2
I'm in CA. Last year my 2002 F250 was stolen from my driveway. Had them on camera and the same thief was caught driving the truck (after causing $9k in damages). He was released within the hour and was caught 3 hours later in another stolen vehicle that he stole from an auto auction. Hold him, right? Nah, they released and that night he was caught yet again stealing a car from that same auto auction.

Unfortunately many areas refuse to prosecute many crimes. California is the worst (from what I've read). Store employees have to stand by an watch shoplifters walk out with stuff. I hear SF won't prosecute anything under $950 in theft. To one political party property crimes are committed by "victims of society" an what ever they take from their oppressors is fair (reparations). In recent years an effort has been made to put activists into office as prosecutors for this reason. National money into local races. The "sanctuary city" policy of refusing to turn illegals that commit crimes over for deportation hasn't helped either.

If you're in California an what I've been reading is wrong please let me know. I know the media can make things sound worse than they are. I just read today about the number of companies moving to Texas from CA. It wasn't just one reason but a combination of taxes, cost of living making wages expensive, regulations being hard to comply with, cost of land to build an expand.
