I also had the newly redesigned 1997 F150. Extended cab with step side bed.

I just looked up the dimensions. The F150 has only grown 1” from 1997 - 2024.
The Ranger has grown quite a bit. Its is only 1” narrower that the current F150.
They probably seem a lot bigger to me because I always ordered a regular cab/short bed. IIRC they stopped making them in 2017 and you could only get extended cabs which were way to big for my needs.

I agree the ranger has grown more than the F150. It was a compact in 2011 and is now a mid-size. But you might want to check you current dimensions. The current F150 is more than 1" bigger than the current Ranger.

Searching for the correct response here. I’ll take every inch I can get? I’ll use every inch? Believe me, I’m skilled with a ruler?

I’ll see myself out

Size difference between my 1988 standard cab 7’ bed and the 2021 Super Cab 6’ bed.
The new truck could eat the old one. Maybe I should have kept the 88 as a dinghy

Current setup, Super Pacific X1 pop up tent. Best thing ever; can sleep four if you build out the truck bed correctly to make a removable platform at bad rail height.
IMG_7652.jpeg

When not in use for sleeping, the tent‘s bed platform “upstairs” slides up over the cab so you can stand up in the truck’s bed. Obviously, I haven’t built out the truck bed yet. It will end up with a U-shaped seating bench, with storage underneath, and will convert to a full bed platform for sleeping “down stairs.”

Nice use of distance and perspective to make the '88 look even smaller than it already is! Of course one being a 4x4 versus a 4x2 doesn't hurt either. Again comparing a compact versus a midsize. Let's see a late 70s "full-size" F150 next to a 5G or a late 70s F150 next to a current F150.

@Big Blue, yeah, I didn’t take the camera angles into account.

I did find out the reason for the ever increasing truck size: it’s the CAFE mileage standards. The larger the truck’s footprint, the fewer MPG it’s required to achieve. So that 88 Ranger would need to get over 45 MPG today. When new, It only got 22 MPG on it’s best day.

BTW, this CAFE Standards document is 383 pages long.

No wonder new trucks cost so much. A lawyer would charge a fortune to go over all this shi… stuff.

That's the issue with THE SYSTEM, they make unattainable goals and give the manufacturers ways to avoid them, that forces them to make vehicles no one needs or wants. But, we are forced to by because that is all that's avaliable.

Exactly. Why can’t the government just let the market decide what we want to buy. Think of how inexpensive a base truck would be without ABS, back-up cameras., airbags, Auto stop-start, turbo 4s, 10-speed transmissions and all the other stuff we’re forced to buy. Most are great safety and fuel saving items, but should be options, not mandatory.

I don't have that much issue with the mandatory safety stuff. It's the crazy economy standard that are forcing the shift from cars to oversize trucks and SUVs

Well, after a lot of research, and searching, we have a new vehicle picked out.

Sometime next week, I’ll take delivery of a 2024 Ranger Lariat!

Options are:
Hot Pepper Red
2.7L
FX4 Pkg
Advanced Tow Pkg
Engine Block Heater
Integrated Box Side Steps
Floor Liners - All Weather
Dealer Installed - Spray-In Bed Liner

Many accessories removed from my existing Tremor. Billie Bars, Prinsu rack, bed slide, extruded aluminum bed tie-downs, stubby antenna. Need to remove the Bak Revolver X4S, DD lights in the grille, BlackVue dash cam, and Lux rock lights.

I’ll send it off with the RokBlokz, TBC, and a hand full of LED bulbs.

Picked it up tonight. Terrible picture, but it gets dark early here. I’ll get a better one tomorrow.

I have a list of things I will do, want to do, may do.

So far, I am really liking the new features. Adaptive cruise control with start stop, brake hold, and heated steering wheel are my favourites.

Might see some of you over at Ranger6G. ✌?
