I had to look at your profile, Brad, because your beautiful pics looked more like Maine than Colorado. Really captures the serenity of a cool foggy hike-nice job!
Thanks! We rarely get solid foggy/low cloud conditions around here so I had to get out and enjoy it.

Clear skies today.

Could see the milky way on naked eye. Phone camera seems not to be so great, but atleast it picked Andromeda there.

Living above the arctic circle, you really get to see the best the night sky has to offer. When I lived in western Canada, I was able to spend time further north and see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky. Now that I‘m not much farther north than southern France, Iraq, or South Korea, I just see them shimmer - meh. We can see the Milky Way up at our cottage because it’s far from any light pollution. It really is something. Your phone’s camera isn’t doing it justice but I know how impressive it can be!

(yes, I need to take my DSLR out, but for that I need a new tripod as the old one is now a stand for rain sensor)

Yes, those! We were lucky last October and got a good showing over the lake. I posted (post #3,049) the pic in this thread but it’s definitely worth posting again…

So cool Gregg,

There was a place we would go bikepacking in BC, where we would lay on the beach and watch the stars. There was no ambient light so the sky looked amazing. We’d watch for shooting stars and satellites and point them out to each other. “There’s one right there!” or “Did you see that?” We’d wonder if any of them were the shuttle or the space station.

This was way before smartphones and now, with certain apps, you just aim your phone up into the night sky and it labels the stars and other objects you’re seeing on the screen. Of course, it doesn’t label the ones that are staring right back at you. ;)

This one is from the beach at Cape San Blas Florida. It is not a commercialized area just a community of beach houses, so the views are spectacular. We do exactly what you describe. I am heading back there soon for a week, and I cant wait.
