Taillight repair procedure?

During a very low speed impact with a 2014 Toyota Four runner the Ranger got a cracked taillight. You should be able to see it in the attached photo. The cracks are over the backup light. I anticipate a lengthy wait for a replacement so a temporary repair to prevent water intrusion or other further damage may be in order. Should I use adhesive or clear tape? Thoughts?

I would go with super glue just to seal it from water intrusion. Gonna look jerry rigged, but, will seal it.

I agree I would use some adhesive (gorilla glue) to keep the water out for now. Might not look pretty but it'll do the job until you can get another one. Might want to check the junkyards too, if you have BLISS those are over $1,000.

Just get the clear epoxy in the double injector at Home Depot, it mixes as you dispense it and cures clear in 15 minutes. Apply with a toothpick along the crack lines. Will be a permanent fix, or at least until you save up the big bucks to replace it. Don't know if you need a complete assembly or if you can just get the housing and swap out the sensors and LED panels.

The housing includes the LEDs for taillight, brake, and reverse, but you have to swap the BLIS sensor over to the new unit.

FYI My insurance is paying for the repair. I'll just use the adhesive until the dealer can get a new tail light in. I haven't had any claims in quite awhile, and been with them a long time so Allstate is waving my deductible. That was a pleasant surprise.
I haven't had a wreck since someone ran into the back of my very new 2000 Mustang GT at highway speeds. Hit hard enough it broke the seat back and crumbled the frame totaling the car. I think I still have pics of the frame if anyone's interested. I came through relatively unscathed needing a few stitches.

Way Kewl, any crash you can walk away from breathing ... the car did its job. Never had a car wreck, but, I've had two bike wrecks ... neither totaled the bike, but, the bills were really high, like 70% of the purchase price. Both were caused by nature .. LOL. First a chipmunk ran out in the road and I hid it with the skinny "bike wheel and tire" on my 65 sporty with the Paco hard tail frame and 16 over springer front end .. slide down Mount Rainer about a mile. Lots of road rash right through the leathers.

Second one a tree hit me. Literally. A thirty foot limb fell across three lanes on a country road just before I hit it. I ended up 2 feet off the ground on the tree limb balanced. I was okay for a couple minutes, but, just as a guy stopped to help, one of the small limbs helping me "balance" the bike, snapped and gravity threw me down on my left side hard. Dislocated/tore the rotator cuff and dislocated the left elbow. Kind of big surgery, but I did ride the bike home ... LOL.

Moral of the story ... we play with dangerous toys ... when bad things happen and we don't see our names in the obits ... we should count our blessings.
