As much as I love(d) NH when I was a resident, it's car-related stuff could get weird.

I'm guessing it's probably gotten weirder (the kindest word I can think of) since the southern half of the state (where my family and I hailed from since before the Civil War) has been inundated by unhelpful Bay Staters..... An inundation so severe it caused the Old Man of the Mountain to give up the ghost 20 years ago.
I grew up in Western MA and always loved NH. We spent many, many summers at Hampton Beach and up at Weirs Beach for bike week in June. I always wanted to retire there but as time went on to many people from Eastern MA migrated there and ruined the area. You know the rest of the story!?‍♂

Interesting. I’m thinking mine could have been there all along and went unnoticed until now. Definitely frustrating.
I only have experience with the Ranger tail lights, so I can't say if its across all of Fords line up. But the Ranger tail lights suck, they are easily cracked. I went through probably 3 or 4 new ones, before I gave up and bought a used set on ebay. Of the new ones, 2 of them were cracked out of the box.

Me every time I see a tail light post

We have safety/smog inspections for brand new vehicles in NC...but if you have a taped together smokin pile of sh*t that's 25 years or older...no problem...

Well, fortunately another shopped passed me for inspection with no mention of the tail light today.
Smh. Yep. How many people you think they scam for easy money. Then....they keep the old parts and resell them.

Same thing here in New Brunswick Canada. Everyone moved here from Ontario & the Western provinces. Our quaint towns no longer exist.
I've vacationed in the Weirs Beach area, nice place.

To my surprise, the dealership failed my truck for state inspection today because of a mysterious crack in my left tail light. The crack is barely noticeable and seems to be inside of the lens, I can't even feel it from the outside and never noticed it before, it can only be seen when the light hits it from the right angle. They quoted me $1,600 to replace . Seems like an easy DIY job but could use some guidance on the part number I need or where to source. Truck is a 2021 Tremor Lariat with LED lights and blindspot sensors.

$1600.......I'd be phoning the local police department and asking what the fine is for driving with an expired safety inspection lol. And I'd just take my chances.

Take it somewhere else for inspection.

Too late for that since the failed inspection is already in the system...that's why I suggested borrowing a good pair from someone just for the reinspection...

See post 19. The OP took it elsewhere and it passed inspection.

I'd bet it would be a different story if it was their own inspection for a trade they intended to re-sell. Over here licensed motor dealers are allowed to do their own inspections, the only stipulation is that it must be done by a qualified mechanic who is registered with the Dept of Transport. Many keep a "friendly" inspector on the payroll. That's probably how I once got a car with ~ 1mm of brake material left on the rear disk pads, the fronts were new so they must have been even worse! But it still had a clean roadworthy!
