Has anyone detached the tail lights yet? What’s the best way to disconnect the whole tail light?

Hi Heather,

Very easy....I had both out when wiring my Ranger for towing behind the RV. Access the two bolts with the tailgate down and gently pull out and the whole light assembly will easily remove.

Hi Heather,

I had to remove and found it easiest to disconnect from the frame connector. I left the "jumper harness" attached to the tail lights. Not sure if this helps you...

Thank you! I think I attempted that but couldn’t quite get it. I’ll try again! Thanks for your help!

I am in the process of adding auxiliary taillights so I can flat tow my 2019 4X4. I do not want to splice my factory wires so I was looking into the LED lights from Blue Ox that apparently all you have to do is drill a 9/16" hole in the back of the taillight assembly. This will bypass the vehicle system and sounds easy to do. I only have 1 bulb in the back of my taillight ( don't know how to get it out) and I think its LED. I wonder if there is any issue with drilling a hole in the allotted space.

When you take off the brake light, there is a connector that has a red slide tab/lock, slide it out, depress the tan plastic distal to the red slide, and gently tug. It’s loose.
