Thanks for doing a test run on this for us. I bet it is much cheaper than a OEM replacement from Ford. Now that I am over the 100k mileage point and all the warranty is gone, using OEM is not as necessary. Can you put a link to the Ebay or maybe even Amazon listing? I want to do some price comparisons.Over Christmas break I stumbled across several companies selling Sync 4 8.46” displays that they claimed would work in our trucks. I decided to be the Guinea pig and order on off of eBay.
What they claim
-Bigger display
-Plug and play with Sync 3.4
-Higher resolution
What I found
-it looks like a bigger display and measures 8.46” diagonally from bezel to bezel but when powered on the image is only 8”. I don’t know if this is because the display is letterboxing the image or it’s not actually 8.46”. Probably for the best as part of the display would be under the dash bezel if it used the full screen.
-It just works
-No real way to tell the resolution of the display but it looks like a better display in terms of brightness, colors and contrast.
-Bracket screws were too long and press against the display internally causing spots on display. I replaced them with shorter screws and the spots wet away.
-No Ford markings in display anywhere.
My thoughts on this “upgrade”. It’s not worth it unless your factory display dies. I’m going to leave it in and test the long term durability but so far it has been good.
